DVC - Questions

I’m currently accepted at a UC, but submitted a withdrawal to take a year off [gain new experiences, do things I couldn’t before, etc… it was a personal emergency]. I had a few questions about taking classes at a community college–specifically at DVC [Diablo Valley College].

Can I take classes while accepted at a UC?

How do I take classes at DVC?

Can I receive any Financial Aid?

I looked online but I couldn’t find any schedule of classes for any further quarters after Fall 2010.

Don’t know all the specifics of your situation or intentions but yes, yes, and yes. DVC is on the semester system but does offer some misc. 3,6,8,12 week courses. DVC has a great quantity and quality of classes, many great teachers, great facilities, decent student services and a diverse student body. The admin and FA tend to be slow and they make lots of mistakes so just be aware of that to better keep on top of.

FA is reserved for students in a goal oriented approved program towards a cert or degree. FA is not meant for students taking random classes for fun or enrichment.

spring schedule isn’t out yet… make sure and register early, it’s a fight to get classes there.

Ye, schedules usually don’t come out until late Nov-early Dec for the following semester. DVC is one of the biggest and best CCC’s in the east bay so day classes are very competitive to get in to. Be prepared to take a mid day dead hour or evening class if going fulltime and are a newbie.
