Dy Integration

How do you integrate a function with respect to y on the ti-84 calculator. I know how to do it by hand and with respect to x, but I don’t know what to put in the calculator. thanks

It doesn’t really matter what variable you use. As long as you can write everything in terms of y, you can call that variable anything you want. Since I think x is the only useable variable on the TI-84, you’ll just have to rewrite in terms of y and then call that x. It’s confusing, I know.

so when I go to graph it, do I put y’s instead of x’s too?

Well, the problem is that you can’t exactly graph a non-function on the TI-84, so you’ll have to solve the function in terms of x and graph it as multiple functions. Like, if you have the function f(y) = y^2, you’ll have to graph two functions: one as sqrt(x) and the other as -sqrt(x).

Oh, and then when I do math 9, I just put it in as if i was integrating with respect to x. But then when I write it down, it is with respect to y.

Precisely.

Ok, I understand it. Thank you for your help and for replying so quickly.

You actually can use any one letter variable name you want in the calculator, using the alpha keys to denote the name of the variable.
