Do you happen to know how many a day they smoked that made the batteries run out? He only smokes like 4-6 cigs a day (and SAYS he won’t go higher with these, but we’ll have to see)

romanigypsyeyes. If he only smokes 4 -6 a day he would have no problem but I am told that you have no warning as to the batteries going dead so that is why they bought the usb adaptor to have at work. dont forget that when you are using these most companies classify the amount of time the batteries will work as to number of mouthfuls you can get. They range from between 100 and about 250 mouthfuls. I have counted myself smoking a regular cigarette and it takes me between 10 and 15 puffs per cigarette, since I smoke 20 cigarrettes a day I would need a charger because the equivilant would be between 200 and 300 vaps. Again it all depends on the way it is being used.

percussiondad…thanks so much for the additional info. My daughter is a little disorganized. I hope she can manage the cleaning, charging, maintenance aspects of these, but they do sound very interesting. I had no idea you could reduce the nicotine over time.

You can buy either a bottle of Juice or atomizers depending on which e-cig you buy in a multitude of flavours and with different nicotine levels. My problem is that they have not been approved for sale in Canada yet and it is bit more difficult for us to get. Wish your D good luck for me. As you can tell I have done a lot of research into them because I have tried too many times to count over the past 40 years to quit and have developed an allergy to the patch, can’t stand the gum and cold turkey felt like it would kill me.

percussiondad…and with a kid who is 20, who has a radiologist dad (who is HORRIFIED that his baby is smoking) I’m hoping she will not follow in that long hard struggle to quit!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU! Keep us posted!

From what I’ve heard & read, they come in strengths of 2x/nicotine, regular strength, and no nicotine. They are NOT currently regulated, so there is no info about purity and whether there are other additives (like the hundreds there are in regular cigarettes). They are coming out in many flavors to establish & capture the youth market. They are made in China, I believe.

Don’t know how addictive they are vs. other cigarettes. They DO contain nicotine, whatever heatlh risks that poses.

There is a different inhaler that is via presciption that you can get & have health insurer subsidize, if your plan covers. This is NOT the same, since that one doesn’t have the fake lit end of the cigarette. I believe it is made in the US. It is specifically designed to help folks quit & does require a doc’s Rx.

debrockman- I hope you are kidding that your almost 21 year old daughter cannot handle the maintenance of this e-ciggy

Batllo…she has some issues…not the normal 21 year old. Raped, eating disordered…struggling through a lot of anxiety issues. She gets better and better all the time, but she’s got a ways to go.

I can see why taking care of an e cig is not high on the priority list. Wishing her well.

Thanks. She’s a great kid. It’s a battle, but she’s worth it.

debrockman take care of her and yourself you need each other, my problems with quitting really are insignificant when you hear something like that. I hope all goes well and I will be thinking of you both

The ad says they taste like a real cigarette. How do they do that if they don’t have tobacco in them? Artificial flavor?

It looks like they don’t really help you quit, though—you still would have the addiction to nicotine–and the habits, such as lighting up after eating, that are so hard to break.

So if you are still just as addicted, what happens if your batteries wear out & you don’t have easy access to fresh ones—or you run out of cartridges or however they have supplied the fix? You bum a realie off someone.

What I would hate to see is people starting to use them who had never smoked before – entering addiction plain & simple. And they do look cool — is there an age minimum for purchase?

Thanks, percussion. We’re blessed. We have a strong family, great treatment professionals, financial wherewithall and good senses of humor. It’s been a big bump in the road, but God can do good things with bad circumstances. We’ve all learned alot about ourselves and eachother. Some families are not so fortunate. These things can tear people apart. I think we would all say we feel closer together.

Jrzmom…good point…I do hope people who use them to break addictions do not look “cool” to people without the addiction…but at the very least, they won’t give you cancer.

Other posters have said you can purchase decreasing cartridge doses of nicotine, so you can, in fact, use them to help break the addiction.

I ordered them off the internet for my daughter, with no proof of age required.

You can use them in decreasing amounts of nicotine but they do not profess themselves to be the way to quick smoking but instead to not have the intake of cancer causing agents that are found in regular cigarettes. I agree that they should be for a minimum age only but as it has been said they are not yet regulated in North America. I have access to a few documents that give some really good info on them but unfortunately I cant get at them till later next week. If you want I can either post it then or if you PM me I could send them to you directly
