E-Cigarettes?

Has anyone ever tried any of these new e-Cigarettes? They’re supposed to be “better” for your health than normal cigarettes (obviously not healthy by any means). My fiance has been trying to quit for nearly two years and hasn’t been successful yet, so he is going to try these out (specifically a company called Blu Cigs) as they are at least cheaper than normal cigarettes.

I read some reviews online just to see what they said, but I would like some other responses from people on here.

Does anyone have any experience with these? He asked me to post on here to see if others have tried them or know people that have tried them and what to expect or if they’re even worth it. I tried searching for old threads on here, but nothing really came up.

Thanks so much!

e-cigarettes?

I heard that those virtual cigarettes have NO tar and NO nicotine–they’re actually healthy for you. So “smoke” away.

(sorry, I couldn’t resist  )

gypsyeyes…I actually ordered them for my daughter…I’ll let you know if it’s really a reasonable simulation or if it’s a scam.

^^ Lol, they’re really called e-Cigarettes. It sounds like a thing that would only be online… but that’s what they call them. I guess everything is e- or i- nowadays.

Anecdotal experience from two friends is that they’re WAY more addictive than regular cigarettes. You can smoke them just about any place and time.

They’re fun but I would never buy them because the temptation to “light up” whenever I felt like it would be way too strong.

With a husband who is a doctor and a beautiful “hipster” daughter who smokes about to turn 21…thought it sounded like an interesting 21st b-day gift.

You’re still getting regular doses of nicotine, so you’re still addicted… you just aren’t inhaling annoying smoke. There was a thread about quitting a year or so ago and one parent - who had quit - cited lots of evidence about why continuing the nicotine just doesn’t work. The one website that I remember is whyquit.com

Addicted to something that doctors say is completely not harmful…just addictive. She’s already addicted…and she is inhaling tar. As a kid who is already fighting an eating disorder, she needs a crutch at the moment. I hear you, but different people have different priorities.

The government wants to ban them because they will eat into a very lucrative tax stream. Health of the citizenry be dammed.

Governments LOVE sin taxes.

OK, I’ll bite: What the heck are they??

Here’s the website: [Electronic Cigarette by blu E Cigarette - Home](http://www.blucigs.com/)

Basically, they’re flame-less, smoke-less cigarettes that essentially have only nicotine in them. Supposed to be safer.

Just like nicotine gum or a patch, but with the added physical “smoking” experience.

Here is the link to the old thread
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/663358-how-quit-smoking.html?highlight=smoking

Interesteddad was pretty strong in his experience and logic. Disclaimer: I have never been addicted to smoking (grew up having to wash parent’s ashtrays - gross enough for me!) but the science about addiction says don’t substitute another form of the drug when you can just get off the drug!

That ad is kind of spooky!

Thanks for the link dragonmom!

dragonmom…and the practicality of having a child with two addictions that can kill them and weaning them down to two addictions, only one of which will kill them, while you break the other addiction that will kill them BEFORE you break the second addiction that won’t kill them…well, let’s just say…we’re the exceptional case…I know. I appreciate your perspective. :)

sending you a pm

Hi romanygypsyeyes- I too am interested in this. I smoke, too much. I met a man who was using an e cigarette and he described it as “almost smoking”. What was different was the flavor- there is regular and a menthol add one can use, but it doen’t really taste like the brand cigarettes. He indicated, however, that the taste and the feel were close enough for him to be able to throw away the real cigarettes and actually smoke less on the e. The smoke, BTW, is just water vapor. He also indicated that he smoked the e on the light rail system and the police roughed him up for violating the anti- smoking laws.

pipmom…there are lots of people who try to smoke them in public places who have gotten in trouble. I hear they are quite realistic. Mine are ordered. I’ll update when they come.

I have 8 co-workers that bought them all at the same time about 2 months ago and bought the juice for them with reducing amounts of nicotine. Of the 8 only one has gone back to regular cigarettes and 2 are still using some nicotine juice. The rest use the E-Cig with zero nicotine to help break the physical habits of smoking. Overall I am impressed and seriously considering them for myself. Instead of smoking it is now called vaping because what you inhale is vapour with a shot of nicotine. We are not allowed to Vap in the work place either so they must still go outside. From what I have heard though they are a lot of work to keep them charged, clean and changing the atomizer can be a bit messy. The biggest problem they have told me about is that some times the batteries die before the day is out so must of them have bought USB chargers to leave work instead of carying the charger back and forth.
