E-Commerce/Business field?

I want to do something that encompasses both technology/computers and business. It’s supposedly referred to as “e-commerce.” Since this is a relatively new major, I was wondering what type of schools would be good for this or would offer this.

Thank you!

My biggest advice is to be careful applying to either engineering schools or business schools- they are THE toughest programs in the nation to get into.

And remember- you can always enter into the programs after doing a year in general fields at the College of Arts and sciences or the like. E-Commerce is not new by the way- the tech bubble burst a while ago and the U.S. is still reeling. However- all business majors will include technology- what kind of “e-commerce” are you looking for? Advertising and Marketing, Infograms, Educational…? There are a lot of perspectives you can view this major with.

However- good luck! Don’t make the mistake of ONLY applying to business schools- causes too much pain. Have some safeties!

Also- I have talked to many businesspeople…and they reccomend getting an education/specialization in a field PRIOR to getting a business degree. You can go for an MBA with nearly any degree as long as you have the grades and show marked success (MBA programs are widepread) even having an MBA is not necessary for business. You simply need to work on people skills, perspectives, and technological supremacy to succeed. Know your stuff, know your people, and you will do well.

Also remember to budget!!! Accounting is THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF BUSINESS. Be ethical.

Thanks for the advice.

I guess I need some clarification. Are you suggesting that I apply to colleges but not to enter its business program and instead, go into the CAS?

I suppose that advertising and marketing sounds appealing. I wasn’t aware that there were so many aspects of it.

Which colleges should I look into? Right now I’m considering UMich and UIUC. Any others you can suggest?
