thank you sooo much for the info. i was wondering how many int’l applicants there were in the pool. admission officer told me that it would be very though for the int’ls to be admitted this year in ED. but it is always hard for int’ls to get admitted. i was very disappointed at first but now i acknowledged the situation.

athene:
did the admission officer say that in general sense (coz lots of ppl know it’s hard for intel to get into williams) or that it’d be tougher this year?

My opinion is that Williams is not as difficult for internationals as many people perceive, and its certainly easier to gain acceptance to Williams (if you are an intl.) than the other need blind international schools (except perhaps Middlebury?).

By Williams’ own admission, they aim to have 6-7% of the class comprised of international students, the vast majority of whom are receiving tons of financial aid. However, having been in admissions offices, I can attest to the fact that the verbal scores of international students are often signficantly lower than those of domestic students. While this is understandable, Williams does not have the resources to help international students “get up to snuff” verbally. Therefore, extremely talented international students with limited exposure to the English language will likely lose out to domestic students or other international students with more refined English verbal skills.

she said that it would be tougher this year (i think this is the general part) but it would especially be tougher for the int’ls. so in one way or another it wil be harder to get in during ED. :(
