EA and then ED 2 at another school?

If I apply EA to BC but do not get accepted, can I then apply ED 2 to another school? It seems only fair, since they are now placing me in the regular decision group?

Yes you may.

fwiw: what little data I have seen indicates that EDII is not worth much of an admissions boost, unless you are applying to a need-aware school as full pay.

I am appyling at a need aware school at full pay. But can I do that if I apply to BC EA?

Where did you hear that ED 2 is not much of a boost?

Unfortunately, I did not see the school I fell in love with until this week ;(. I had already sent Ea apps out to restrictive schools.

Published data on ED rounds is rare: 1) schools hate to publish data; 2) not many have two ED rounds. But, several years ago, Emory did in fact publish their acceptance rates by round. If I recall, EDI acceptances were ~1.5 that of RD, but EDII was barely higher than RD. (Emory is need-blind and meets full need.) But, a need-aware school like Colgate, for example, might love to lock in a full-pay student EDII rather than wait to compete for students with other options in the RD round.

Thank you Bluebayou, very helpful information.

Lucky for me I am a full paying student I suppose! I want to do the right thing and not have the restrictive EA schools come back to me and say I was not permittted to apply ED2 as well as ED1.

What if I am accepted in the EA round, do you think I can still apply ED 2 at another school? I am supposing probably not.

You can definitely apply ED2, even if you are accepted EA to another school. EA is not binding and doesn’t affect your ability to apply ED at all. It is just an early answer. You would have to decline the EA school once you received a positive answer from your ED application though.

Boston College and Georgetown have “restrictive early action” meaning I cannot apply ED to any school if I apply EA to either school (which I did.)

kreativekat, your answer is correct only at schools that have non-restrictive EA. As tribegirl09 pointed out, BC does not let you apply EA if you are applying ED somewhere else.

tribegirl:

Yes, you can apply EDII and EA to BC IFF the EDII application deadline is AFTER you are notified by BC. For example, you apply EA to BC and receive an acceptance in mid-Dec. You can then apply EDII to another college should you desire. EDII usually has a Jan application deadline.)

But you cannot apply EDI and EA to BC simultaneously.

Thanks everyone! In conclusion, Restrictive EA does not preclude you from applying ED 2, only ED 1, right?
