“It is a cultural value at MIT to have choice and thats why I have not been eager to change what we do for early action, she said.”

Didn’t MIT a year ago have single choice EA?

nope… it’s been completely open for a while

I have been looking at mit for 3 years now. I have gone on 4 tour/info sessions. I swear in the earlier (2?) ones they said they were single choice EA. That can’t be more than 2 years ago.

I know how it is now, but they USED to be single choice, i promise.

I picked a story from 1999… how long ago are you saying it was single-choice? :P

“Those students who were accepted may choose to come to MIT but are not required to do so, and can apply to other institutions. Other schools offer early decision programs that require freshmen to enroll upon being accepted. Johnson said that such programs are “not something that we won’t think about” but said that she was “reluctant” to move to such a system.”

“This story was published on January 6, 1999.”

"This year, the Institute launched a new Web site entitled MyMIT, which boasted a user-friendly interface and decorative colors. "

haha. prettttty colors.

I think the percentage stats were interesting… and actually REALLY nice. Well, for me. Heh. 26 percent female… that makes me feel better. That, and Matt saying that the chance of admission with an interveiw rises from 9% to 22%.

I haven’t done any of the real math, but all I know is that for me things are looking better (statistically) than 15%. Of course, in the end it’s not chance that determines whether or not I get in. Unless of course my Calc teacher is correct–“MIT, eh? Eh?! MIT, ehhh… that’s a crap-shoot.”

I wonder if the 9% vs 22% is true in EA also… I bet that there are a lot more EA applicants choosing to interview than RD folks, so maybe it jumbles the numbers a bit…

Well, if anything, it jumbles it to the point that I get no advantage out of it.

I’ll still have my vagina, though!

Now that’s one component missing from MY application. :D

I should have written that on “List any regional, state-level, etc. awards you have won and indicate the year in which you received them…”

National Merit Semi-Finalist… (11)…National
Vagina…(9) (10) (11) (12)… International

Does that mean you were awarded with a vagina? Like, you didn’t have one to begin with? :D

Well, it IS an incredible gift. I would call it an “honor”, which is part of the question they asked.
