Decisions are out! Congrats to everyone who got in.
Can anyone confirm if you can see the major you got in from the letter?
@findrightfit No major listed for us either.
My son got in with presidential award, but it’s a lot less than what my daughter got … does WPI give more to girls? Happy he got in but not sure if we can afford it…
WPI gives more to girls because they’re trying to balance out their gender ratio
@leapyearG They do give a bit more to girls but not as much as they used to give. Every year the top award goes down a few thousands.
My daughter was accepted with a Merit scholarship of $30,000 per year plus Global Scholarship. Very happy for the scholarship but not sure it’s enough for her to attend.
Very nice WPI, my girl is IN and very happy with Merit and Global Scholarship.
Daughter got in, also with presidential scholarship. I hope we can get the numbers to work out for us. She loved it when she visited in August. We will wait and see if she makes it to April for Accepted Student Day. We need more time to understand and digest their financial package.
Congrats to all admitted!
I wonder if a family’s EFC is part of the formula when determining the size of the merit award as well. If WPI knows they will have to offer more aid to a family in order to make it financially feasible, why not increase their merit award?
Son also accepted but scholarship (12.5k a year) still makes it double the amount of his safety school. If he had gotten a bigger merit scholarship we might have discussed it but for now it’s in the no pile since my son wants to attend grad school too.
I don’t know when my daughter applied she got 32K merit, she is actually attending (this was two years ago). My son just got in and only got 14K. Same stats. We are not making that much more and we are now paying for one in college. I feel so bad for my son because most likely we will not be able to afford it. I think the tuition is 72K
My son was accepted with $14k merit, which is great but about half what he has been offered elsewhere.
Time for some serious thinking!
Our Daughter has been accepted for Engineering with a $25K per year Presidential scholarship and the Global scholarship.
wGPA 3.95, uwGPA 3.75
4 APs including Physics x2, Statistics and History
ACT 32 Superscored - 34 Science, 34 English, 31 Math, 29 Reading
NHS, President of Marching Band, Officer in First Robotics Club, Competitive dance for 10+ years with many awards, YMCA Summer Camp counselor, Math tutor to 4-5th grade, Plays Sax in HS Symphonic band and Jazz band. Charity work and many other EC activities.
With the federal loan this still leaves COA at over $40K for first year so still a stretch financially for us. We will see what other colleges come back with - waiting on Rutgers and Case Western this week and 7 others next year.
Just an FYI based on some odd the earlier posts: WPI doesn’t accept into majors so that won’t be specified. Women get larger merit scholarships than men with the same stats, but the skew towards women seems to have decreased in the past 2 years based on my 2 daughters’ offers and what is reported here.
@curiousme2 Unfortunately they do not have to offer more aid. Colleges very often gap students (meaning they offer less than they should) and that happens even to schools that claim that they meet 100% of need and WPI does not. Financially it is always a gamble. That’s why it is advised to apply to a variety of schools and then compare the offers. Good luck!
These are only merit scholarships. I think they will announce need-based later (most colleges do) to fill the gap. You should contact them perhaps.
If you submitted the css and fafsa with your application, your financial aid letter will be seen under the Application tab which is right below the Admission tab. My son got the same 14k Presidential merit scholarship that your son got. Everyone gets the $5000 global scholarship starting this year, which is nice.
For need based financial aid he got the WPI $14,810 scholarship (it’s a grant) and 3 loan opportunities.
So $28,810 is really not enough considering tuition is $72k and we have a daughter at Bentley. They do not take into account that your EFC is lower with multiple kids in college. Not fair.
Thank you I’ll have him check for financial aid. No matter what it is it will probably be not affordable to us based on the merit scholarship he got, I feel so bad because his sister gets to go there …
I agree. My son may go to UConn since we are in CT and they have a great computer science program. Luckily he likes UConn as much if not more than WPI. Can you share what your daughter’s experience is like? My son is an introvert so the project based learning could be an issue for him.
