EA decisions UGA class of 2024

@Boomer1964 I agree with you, UGA has a lot to offer, and although the tour was my least favorite, it is still high on my daughter’s list. I think a lot of what makes a tour aside from the information is how your student engages or relates to the tour guide. I could see the difference in my daughter’s demeanor during a tour when she connected with thetour guide.

Are you going to visit UF? We were there the same week as UGA. Good luck!

@Hollyw00d I remember seeing your name when D18 was looking at some of the schools back in 2018. Perhaps even in the tOSU section. It seems like you settled on Baylor. Not sure if you are in[state for any of these schools, but what was your impression of UF vs UGA since you had the ability to see them back to back as well as being accepted to both.

@Boomer1964 Yes! Back then, my S18 was going through the process. OSU was high on his list at the time. In the end, he decided not to visit UF & UGA after he was accepted because he wanted to stay in-state and be closer to home to get his education (Binghamton University).

@hollywOOd What was your impression of UGA vs UF last week since you got to see them back to back? It would be interesting to get someone perspective from these two school

@Boomer1964 and @H0llyw00d No, we did not tour during finals either time. We saw other state schools like UNC, UVA, U of T (also very large campus) Sorry, just my opinion UGA’s tour could use some improvement. While the Welcome Center is lovely, it’s very far away from both the center of campus and where the Honors Program Information session is held. Thus, for students trying to tour and attend the information session during the same day it’s not the most ideal setup.

As far as the no blue light phones, UGA utilizes a safety phone app that is free to all current students to put on their own cell phones. We were told the reason they switched to this system was because if an emergency were to happen where a student was threatened, it’s better to be able to be on the move with a cell phone in hand & still be in contact with the police than have to stand at a stationary blue light phone while waiting for help to arrive. I’m not exactly sure how the app works, but that’s what a student who attends told us.

Interesting about the blue lights. I was on a college tour recently—I forget which campus—and the guide explained that the idea behind the blue lights is you hit one, and if you have to run, run towards another blue light and hit it. That way the police can track which direction you are going.

@OldTimer1234 Thank you for sharing that info about the blue lights. That would have been an excellent thing for the tour guide to share! His advice to get a police escort if a student was feeling uncomfortable walking alone felt like it should have been the last resort as opposed to the ‘go-to’ option. I’m chalking it up to the student’s inexperience as a tour guide. He was an amazing, warm, friendly, intelligent guy, nevertheless.

Good luck to all still waiting for a decision later today!

We are hoping that some merit awards will go out today. S was EA auto admit for Honors, but no merit as of yet.

@ShrimpBurrito Have you heard anything about merit awards? Mine was EA admitted, but just got into Honors today (with the additional honors application), so she is going to accept this offer. We are beyond thrilled! However, we were also wondering if there’s still hope for additional scholarships or most have gone out?

Congrats to your D, @OldTimer1234 ! There is nothing new in my S’s portal about scholarships. David Graves said today that there are still a number of merit awards that will go out by the end of March. He used to say mid April, so the timeline seems to have moved up. S is very eager to see what UGA offers him, if anything. He has it narrowed down to UGA and FSU.

My son was just accepted today! He applied Regular Decision. We saw this on UGA’s admission blog today:

Scholarships are announced on the status page as well, and it will show up there if you have received one. If you were already admitted, then we would send an email to let you know to check your status page. Scholarships will be offered through the end of March, so we will have to review and award a number of these. Once we are done, an email will go out announcing the end of the process.

We don’t see anything on his status page regarding scholarship so seems that he didn’t receive one. Wondering if anyone saw mention of scholarship on their portal today?

Congrats! My daughter also got into the Honors Program! YAY!!! Unfortunately it does not appear to look like she will get more money offered.

@UpstateSCmom I actually logged on today specifically to see if your daughter had gotten in too! Don’t give up hope yet. With this crisis going on it’s possible scholarships have been held up. As far as I know the, “there’s no more scholarships” email hasn’t been sent out yet. I’m hoping things come through for your family.

The portal had no mention of more scholarship money for us either, after admit to Honors.

We’re in the same position, OOS daughter was accepted to honors but no mention of a scholarship. UGA is her top choice, so hoping to hear some positive news at some point.

OOS daughter- who was accepted early with auto honors- just got an email saying she was awarded the Presidential Leadership Scholarship with Full Waiver. That was an upgrade from Classic Scholar Waiver she got with admission. So, for those looking for extra scholarship money, looks like they are awarding those now.

Good Luck!

Im an OOS girl who got the classic scholars waiver when I first heard back my decision (regular). I wasn’t an auto admit to honors but applied and then got in. Heard back yesterday that I also got the Presidential Leadership Scholarship with a full waiver. So excited!!!
