Someone said their favorite film is “A Beautiful Mind”, and here we are, eager for our responses from U of C. That reminds me of a story. In the early stages of his schizophrenia, John Nash was offered a job from the University of Chicago. He turned it down, in a letter saying that he was expecting a better job as Emporer of Antartica. Yes, sad, but an interesting bit of lore about Chicago. (I keep finding funny bits of lore about Chicago in the stuff I read. Anyone else know any good college lore?)

Book: I can’t pick one. How about some favorite authors? Arthur Conan Doyle, Isaac Asimov, Hernando de Soto would be a few.
Food: Seasonal milkshakes from Burgerville. (If you’ve never had one, you’ll just have to visit Portland in the summer time!)
Movie: In the last few weeks of summer, I watched “The Village” over and over again with my little brother. I guess I’ll call that one my current favorite.

Movie: Too many to count, but Gattaca, Vanilla Sky, American Beauty, Office Space, and some others are near the top of the list.

I’m applying EA! Although i’m not counting on getting in…

Book: Angle of Repose- Stegner and the more recent Fast Food Nation- WOW! after reading that and watching super size me i’m never eating fast food again!
Food: Anythign Chinese… seriously… anything. and crepes
Movie: oh there’s so many… i guess The 40 year old virgin (with its ridiculous ending), Farris Buelers day off and Lost In Translation

S (Wild Child) is applying EA. He is also an Ayn Rand fan, but is currently obsessed with Tucker Max (a grad of S’s high school). S is a recruited athlete, which doesn’t mean a whole lot in terms of admissions. I (the Mom) am a Chicago Law grad- back in the horse and buggy days.

I have a question–when do the teacher recs have to be sent out by? On the website it just says postmarked by Nov. 1.
