Eagle Dollars vs Dooley Dollars

I know that Dooley dollars don’t roll over; what I don’t understand is this: are they accessed via the same card (the college ID card?) So when you want to buy something at Starbucks, do you hand over your ID card and tell the merchant you want to use…dooley dollars? Or is that the default option and you have to tell them you instead if want to use Eagle Dollars?

And can you determine the balance on both Dooley dollars and Eagle dollars via the same PIN number you create on OPUS?

By the way – I called the Financial Services office and asked if the card needed to be “activated” to be used, and they said no. D tried to use the card to pay for books at the bookstore; they said it was no good (even though there’s money on it). Frustrating…

My two students found it was hard to use all their Dooley Dollars, so I never added Eagle Dollars to their account. They use Visa cards for major purchases such as textbooks. I think Dooley Dollars and Visa covers everything on campus except laundry. Visa automatically accounts for purchases, which is great.
