Hypes, I can sympathize with your statements. However, as PosterX has said, and hearing from many different admissions officers at HPYSM, this isn’t really the case because Yale is looking for the best students. Even if Yale is not your first choice but you are clearly better than other first choice applicants, they will take you over them. The reason is, the vast majority of people who matriculate come to love Yale even though beforehand, HPSM might have been their first choice.

I heard today from someone at my office that Yale received 20,000 ea applications. Does anyone know if that figure is correct?

Also, how on earth can they review 20,000 applications???

Third, my son is scheduled for an alumni interview… Does this give us a little more hope?

Laura

well, if you check the link, whoever said that clearly had no idea what they’re talking about

ayush… you and i. same boat. i am not religious but i pray every night that i will get in, that they will find me special after all! i am by no means an ideal student but i definitely have some strengths. GO under(bull)dogs!!

Haha I’m in the same situation as many of you. My EC’s are pretty strong, and my test scores are well in the average of an average Yale applicant, but I’m afraid I won’t get in because we only usually send one a year to Yale if any at all. There’s another person applying who’s a legacy AND athlete, but my fingers are still crossed!

And I wish Yale opted for a binding program this year as well.

If 20,000 people applied to yale EA (which they didnt), you can expect yale to receive +100,000 applications in the RD round (which they wont).

Yale’s admit rate will drop like a rock. Unfortunately, so will it’s yield.

Which is why i’m hoping to at least get deferred cause the waitlist will probably be awesome.

Haha well if they admit, 750 people (709 last year, I’m expecting a few more this year) out of the 4820 people that applied SCEA. The admit rate would be about 15.5% which isn’t that bad…

Hahaha the lengths that we will go to to pursue passionate love for Yale…

15.5%. Wah. Hey, you’ve got 0% chance if you don’t apply!!!

I’m losing it.

Haha now we’re just trying to make ourselves feel better =P

ONE MONTH exactly until decisions come out! It’s not that far away if you think about it…

I’m waiting to get a letter instead of looking online. It will feel more definite.

omg can’t wait till nov 30th when decisions come out. will most likely be rejected anyways.

whatwhat noo…

collegehopeful, decisions come out dec 14th or 15th. not november 30th…

lol collegehopeful…I cant wait till Nov 30th either (just not for the same reasons lol!!)

Nov 30th ? Is there a joke here that I’m not getting?

Questbridge finalists find out on the 30th. SO i I will have my rejection 15 days ahead of everyone else! YAY!

OR you will get the good news 15 days ahead of us. Yay to that!

The Wall Street Journal covered QuestBridge today (I think) - sounds like a great program. And even the 50% who don’t get in to their ‘matched’ college often are accepted to other great colleges, so don’t give up hope if that happens, CollegeHopeful - keep working at the others.

ok if they come out the 14th i am going to die. i was planning on sleeping in and going to the computer to check my decision on a nice saturday morning then probably crawl in my bed again for the rest of the day and sob. lol. or i will rejoice.

now…i have to go to SCHOOL. i will not be able to resist checking for the whole day.

and 15.5% isn’t as bad as i thought it would be if thats the final rate…i was hearing on this site that it would go down to like 11%. theres something to appreciate, right?

actually 4800+ isn’t that much a jump considering the predictions were up to 6000 applications this year, good news in some way
