Early Action Class of 2023 - VT

@isue38011 Hey, I applied as a cadet too and got in. I sent them an email about it and if your received an offer of admission while also applying to the corps, that means you were also accepted to the corps as well! Hope this helps!

I got into Engineering OOS. More likely one of wait listed will be accepted:)

What did you mean…engineering greater than honors? My daughter was accepted into engineering but didn’t get any honors invite…we thought that equated to where they also had to live…she wasn’t interested.

daughter got accepted to college of science…BUT DO NOT SEE ANY MENTION OF FINANCIAL AID…ANYONE KNOW WILL IT COME LATER…ALSO IF SHE PLANS TO CHANGE MAJOR WILL THAT BE A PROBLEM…

STATS WERE…

SAT: 1280

GPA 4.0 4 ap classes …her gpa is unweighted…they do not weigh

Rank. 18 out of 200

VA resident…because we are military we do not live in Va. but pay taxes there…

wondering about her financial packet…other schools she got a great package…but was wondering how VA will be given out since we are residents…congrats everyone…

btw, lots of activities as well…and honors…

btw, anyone think the acceptance letter was weird…all hers said was congradulations and about submitting 400.00 deposit…other then that…no welcome congrats…thats why we had to read it over and over if it meant she was accepted…anyone else read like that as well…?

@ahrummom I thought the same thing. Looks like they left the excitement to the kids. Could have been a little more welcoming.

I agree in that they should have included a link of .pdf to real acceptance letter. Assume will come in the mailed packet but would have been nice online as some colleges too.

The financial aid offer is linked in a long skinny box to the right of the ā€œadmission offered now pay us $400ā€ page.

Is it the consensus that all merit has been awarded, or is there some that is communicated with or after honors notifications? Any previous year’s experiences that would shed some light on this? TIA

@Bizdock , @ahrummom The warm fuzzy welcome stuff comes in the packet next week. And the orientation event is awesome. But, yeah, the online acceptance is kinda cold. Also, @ahrummom, in state don’t expct much of anything by way of merit aid.

thank you…guess i have to wait till financial aid packet comes in…looking forward how much we need to pay…thanks again…

unfortunately i do not see a link for financial aid…hmmm?..probably my daughter didn’t get any merits…

No box at all to the right of the acceptance decision box - over in the far right margin of page? Did you fill out the pre-requisite federal form.

My son got admitted to engineering, but do not see about Honors. Anybody got honors with their decision?

@rightyb your son has fine grades. He will do fine in any school. We wouldn’t know how they select. It’s no doubt disappointment but don’t be hard, it’s no reflection of your son’s performance. All the best

Would someone post opinion on engineering or CS in VT vs UMD vs Rutgers. UMD oos is $50k vs VT oos 40k and Rutgers 30k. Unfortunately no merit scholarships came except $2000 from UMD . Thanks

@cshigh is that annual cost or total 4 year cost? If annual, I would honestly say go to Rutgers and save tons of money.

IMHO

@PhilipM Not to sound discouraging, but getting off the waitlist seems unlikely this year just because it seems with this whole Early Action thing going on, it seems that’s being treated more as regular decision and regular decision as more like the waitlist.

@isue38011 Well the introduction of EA this year isn’t really relavant to waitlist chances unless it precipitates another major increase in total applicants because, whether EA or RD, accepted students have the option to turn down the offer. So it still come down to yield rate, which is a the total numbers of applicants who accept the offer

If, as a result of the EA option, VT gets more applicants and accepts more kids than in previous years, the latter at least is not likely, that would affect waitlist chance, as would a relatively high yield rate for the EA crowd. The other thing that could factor in is if they increased the number of ED acceptances over previous years because all of those kids are committed to attending. So it all comes down to a function of how many kids offerd admission actually enroll. As I undersatnd it, they have space for 6500 or so. They have only ever had that many enroll once in the past seversl years so that would say there is hope for kids on the waitlist. Also, it will vary from program to program. COE may not admit any or very few, while College of Science, CAUS,and others may have more.
