Why is there such a large gap between ED and EA,? and such a large gap between NOVA and anywhere else in Virginia?

@Volty123 Not sure what you are referring to re: gap between ED and EA?

The whole “NoVa bias” thing is a little contrived in my opinion. On one hand, NoVa students are competing vs. a much larger local pool than you will find in other regions of the state, so yeah you can make the argument that it’s more competitive. On the other hand, I have heard from more than one academic source that a pretty large number of schools in the big NoVa counties have firm reputations for grade inflation. Hence the “why did the NoVa kid with a 4.35 get deferred while a ____________ VA kid with a 4.1 got accepted” question. A couple 1/10ths on a GPA and 20 or so points on an SAT aren’t large gaps in the grand scheme of things.

These weighted GPA’s really mean nothing. In the Virginia Beach school system there is no weight applied for honors classes and very minimal weight applied for AP’s. My sons weighted GPA is 3.9, but his unweighted is probably around 3.8. That’s with honors classes, 6 AP’s and 3 dual enrollments (which get no weight, and one DE doesn’t count toward his GPA). If a student in our school system has over 4.0 weighted, they have all A’s and probably a lot of AP classes.

Colleges weight classes on their own - they don’t use the schools methodology. That should put everyone on a more even playing field (and maybe as ShenVal18 says - then some of the overweighted GPA’s even out more).

Hey I recently checked by application today and when I clicked on the financial info section it brought links to the VT Authorized Payer Login, VT Parent BTP PIN Login, and pay online with foreign currency. These links definitely were not here before and I’m wondering if these mean anything

I think I have had them the entire time I have had my portal.

I know for a fact that these weren’t present on my application before so curious as to why they’ve showed up

@Nats2019Champs my sons says that now too and i was wondering the same thing. Pretty sure it wasn’t there before.

@Nats2019Champs I have that as well but I have never clicked on it before so who knows.

Hmmm
my son’s has it too, but hasnt checked the portal in so long, so has no idea if it was there before or not!

Yes, my daughter has those financial links also. But same, cannot remember if they were there before or not. Would be nice if it meant something!

@2019boston we moved to regular decision RIT, and son got in. Still waiting on VT; the last EA decision! good luck everyone!!

Is RIT harder or easier to get into compared to virginia tech for engineering?

@volty123 I think VT is harder but not by much. These were my DS top choices and I thought they were reaching and they he got in to RIT.

Ok I guess thats good to hear, I just got accepted by RIT and I dont know if I should be happy.

Come on VT send our your results - Clemson did over 10 days early, Furman is now sending them out early!!! Where is VT?

BTW we have had that financial info on out portal page(s) for quite awhile, perhaps the whole time - it does not appear to be something new for us.

Will VT admission process take senior mid-year grades into consideration if students are deferred from EA to RD which are less than two weeks apart? Just a thought.

They do not take mid-year grades

We can only hope - come on VT how about this Friday?

I’m not sure if @VTAdmissions regularly checks CC or Reddit. Seems like they are less communicative than other colleges during the process.
