Throwing around numbers the other week on the Waitlist thread - I came up with and estimated 500-1000 off the waitlist this year dependent on how good their acceptance rate is from the initial round of offers.
I do not forsee, especially with the stats of students waitlisted, a situation where there are not people taken from the waitlist in decent numbers.
My son now has 2 schools that have wait-listed him. The timing of these will be crucial if he is pulled from either or both of them. Should be an interesting MayâŠespecially since High School has been cancelled for the next 2 weeks and somehow heâll have to cram up for his AP exams in May. Such strange times, right now.
@HokieCrazy I really hope your son gets into Tech. Mine is deciding between several options but was counting on open houses to help him decide. Definitely strange times with the uncertainty of how high school will end for them, how life might be for the foreseeable weeks (will they even have a graduation ceremony?), and where they will land in the fall. I didnât realize how nice I had it with my eldest two years ago, who committed to Tech in November and was done.
With the new CDC suggestion of 8-weeks of isolation, it will be interesting to see what happens to this yearâs senior class. Weâre talking about proms, AP tests, graduation (will schools even give them credit for these classes?), etc. These are strange times and I really feel for these kids. These are some of the most memorable moments for them, and they will likely be taken away from them.
@HokieCrazy Unfortunately the CDC guidance likely means all schools and colleges are now done for the year and wonât reopen before the fall at the earliest. Many students and parents have not realized this yet and are holding on to thinking this is only a 2 or 4 week shut down - itâs not. I really feel for all students but especially seniors at HS and college who wonât get these weeks back. I just hope we can organize at least some out door, limited attendance graduation ceremonies in the summer when the risk of infection should be a lot lower than now.
I just wanted to say that I monitor a handful of threads and this is by far the best group of parents/contributors - informed, positive, and willing to share. I appreciate all of the info! My daughter has been waitlisted but however it works out, I have enjoyed reading.
My NJ son got off wait list on Friday and accepted into General Engineering. We were not expecting to hear so soon but are extremely happy that we did!
