I was filling out my CSS Profile to day for Early Action at Drexel. When I got to the page about parents, I put Will not file tax return. That option tells you to leave the next question blank, what kind of tax return will they file. However, when I try to go the next page I get a message telling me that there are blank fields on the page. What am I supposed to do? I need to know by November 1st to get Early Action 1.

Are you as the parent(s) not required to file taxes?

You will still have to put down how you eat every day and any untaxed income including any or all of the following:

untaxed income and benefits (Give total amount for the year. Do not give monthly amounts.)

Social security benefits received for all family members except the student (untaxed portion only) $

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

Child support received for all children

Deductible IRA and/or SEP, SIMPLE, or Keogh payments (See instructions.)

Payments to tax-deferred pension and savings plans (See instructions.)

Tuition and fees deduction (See instructions.)

Amounts withheld from wages for dependent care and medical spending accounts

Earned Income Credit (2011 IRS Form 1040, line 64a or 1040A, line 38a or 1040EZ, line 8a)

Housing, food and other living allowances received by military, clergy and others (See instructions.)

Tax-exempt interest income ( IRS Form 1040, line 8b or 1040A, line 8b)

Foreign income exclusion IRS Form 2555, line 45 or Form 2555EZ, line 18)

Somewhere along the line, the school is going to ask you for either a transcript from the IRS (if you have filed taxes) or an IRS non-filers statement, if you are not required to file taxes in order to receive financial aid.

If your parents WILL file 2013 taxes, you need to fill in the estimated income and tax amounts for the 2013 tax year.

You indicate the status as “will file”.

I live with just my mom, an she is unemployed and on disability. She won’t file a tax return period.

Actually, the firm will say when you check no, we will not file to jump to another series of question (like those listed above), which you will have to fill out.

She will still have to put in the untaxed portion of her social security disability. Eventually you will have to submit an IRS non-filers statement

so what option should I put:

completed
will file
not required/will not file

If she will not be required to file…you put “will not file/not required to file”
