Early Action!

Austin-I will e-mail my son’s counselor and she if she has any info. Not sure if she will respond, but I will let you know if I get a response.

From what I read on the UNC admissions blog, folks were upset last year because some people found out by mail a few days before the results were posted online. Based on last years blog the folks in admissions seem to really care about the students so my guess is that they don’t want to repeat this approach and decisions will come via the website, before the official letter arrives.

Exercise is a good way to dissipate stress.

I looked through all of the source code and I did not find any way to view your decision early. It wasn’t like the ACT where you could view your scores via javascript once they were posted. I’ve built websites before, and I can tell you that ADM_ACCEPT.GBL or whatever is a filename, not a modifier so that is not an indication of your decision. For instance, if it said DECISION.GBL?status=ACCEPT, then that would be another case, but that would be a serious security vulnerability.
I know the waiting is long, but we’ll all do fine in the end, whether or not you end up going to University of North Carolina or not.
I would strongly agree with the previous post that said it could come out on Wednesday. They are off on Monday, and I’m sure they need a day to get everything in order before posting decisions. If I remember correctly, they posted decisions in a previous year on Wednesday at about 4PM. During the morning at 9am, they posted a message saying that decisions would be posted then so I’d check the UNC Admissions Blog in the morning on Tuesday or Wednesday to see whether or not decisions will be posted that day. It doesn’t hurt to keep checking the status, but I guarantee that it will not change until at least Tuesday.

I’ve been playing basketball every single school night so im not on the connectcarolina page refreshing like I was Friday afternoon. The ambiguity of their deadline is the most annoying thing, I just want to know regardless of the outcome so I can submit my other apps provided I am denied/deferred.

Also to whomever wanted to talk about the UNC-MD game. We played very well in the first half, but we dropped off significantly in the second half with the early fouls and the inability to make many baskets. We scored what, like 20 or 22 points in the second half compared to the 40 in the first. Inconsistently is plaguing us this year. However, I have seen an improvement in teamwork and creating good shots. Paige looked a lot more comfortable today running the point.

Agreed re: team chemistry. Last two games they seem to be a lot more in sync than they were earlier in the year, especially on defense. The defense was pitiful during non-conference, but now they seem to be gelling and Paige is really starting to pick his game up. Some of that ball handling today was ridiculous.

What other schools take 3+ months to review EA apps, with their influx of RD apps before they release results? As OOS chances are slim I just hope it’s not deferral.

I’ve always been told that UNC is last because they read every application twice and it goes through multiple people. That’s a lot of reading and seeing as how they really don’t like deferring people I’m sure the decisions are much harder to make.

Defense I think is probably their biggest weakness. Especially in the non-conference. They would always get lost off of screens and there would always be an open opponent who would knock down the open shot. Hairston just needs to get more consistent at shooting because he was a hoss in high school, but I haven’t seen him on the same level.

Hairston has begun to develop his all around game, though. His scoring is still inconsistent, but he’s been better on defense.

Execution is also MUCH better. It was frustrating watching all the fumbled rebounds earlier in the year. There were so many opportunities to get rebounds and get on the fast break but they turned it over so, so much.

I just think UNC gets more and more conceited every year.

southerndude-keep running across you on diff school threads. we should have compared notes from the beginning! unfortunately we are OOS (as of a year ago-darn!) and not an URM so wont have the same results but could still cross paths somewhere

So I’m excited to hear from UNC

No change this morning…

For fun I took a look at a 2010 decisions page. Although in 2011 and 12 decisions came out before the 31st in 2010 it was 31 although they had likely letters too.
Take a look.

So is the 23rd legit?

The only thing that is legit is what comes from the UNC admissions office. If you look at the archived UNC admissions blogs, it seems like getting the results out is a dynamic process and is subject to glitches. So the Jan 23 date fits a pattern and is logical, but we won’t know until it happens.

This is the link for 2011.

@dowzerw,
We are on similar threads!! But yes, I’m IS for NC and a URM so that does bring different prospects. I’m not too optimistic about UNC-CH, my stats are OK, but not great. I just want this over with so I can move on to the next phase of life and planning! Best of luck to you and yours, let’s keep “comparing notes”!

Just to confuse things, a friend’s GC got word it could be tomorrow. Don’t get all apopleptic about that. The 23rd probably makes more sense but just wanted to share that the 21st is not out of the realm…good luck to all!

and southerndude-we’ll see you somewhere! ;)

The admissions offices are closed tomorrow for the holiday. I don’t think we’ll be getting them tomorrow.
