Good essays (especially Common App)
I think good recommendations (can’t be sure, I didn’t read them)

I don’t post on here at all really, but I felt compelled to this time. I got deferred from UChicago and UVA so this acceptance felt pretty good :).

d rejected, OOS (VA)
4.0 UW, 4.36 W\9 APs, the rest mostly honors

great recs
solid essays
lots depth in main EC; others as well
varsity athlete; played 2 HS sports
kind of surprised at the straight rejection, but someone said its the second best decision and I agree. UNC was #2 for her.
She will go to UVA (yay!!) which was her #1, though Carolina was a close second. Probably would have been her #1 if she could have justified the difference in tuition; the schools are pretty similar academically.

Deferred, Out of State(CT)
3.56 Unweighed(School Does not Weight, but 8 AP Courses and Numerous Honors)
2310 SAT (750, 760, 800)

Great Recs
Common App essays were great, not so sure about NC one
Tons of amazing Extracuriculars: Eagle Scout, Political Activism, Triple Varsity Athlete, State Champs, Captain, + Tons others

Out of state, so what do you expect. Obviously, my GPA was the issue here(Damn my Freshman slacker self) Huge upward trend: 3.4 freshman year–> 3.77 this past quarter. Hopefully Them seeing how well I am doing this past semester with 6 AP Courses and personal best GPA will push me over the top for regular decision. Good luck to the rest of you!

89wahoo,

Life takes one where it does. I’m probably going to U of South Carolina, but torn with VT but it’s all good :)

Rejected from NJ. Oh well… nothing much that I can do about it except cry lol. I expected it. Congrats to everyone who got accepted and good luck to those deferred! I’ll always be a Tarheel at heart :)

Southerndude, what a nice post. Thank you! I agree completely
My step-son went to VT. As much as it pained my UVA grad self, I have to say I really, really liked it and so did he. Great school and environment. He was very happy there.
Everyone ends up where they are meant to I think. Sometimes its just harder to see it at first. I’ve enjoyed reading your posts on various threads and I know you are going to thrive and whatever school you select will be the better for having you there.

rejected, OOS

-2080 SAT, 750 Math II, 600 Physics (my physics course didn’t cover everything on the Subject Test)
-3.4 UW at a top private school in country
-Plethora of leadership position (Varsity and club soccer captain, Spring Track, Computer Technological Assistant at school Tech Center during school year and summers, section leader in the orchestra, prefect, leader of multi cultural alliance, leader of school spirit group, and many more)
-Not much community service (Just over 20 hours)
-3 APs (Calc, Stat, Music Theory)
-Multi-Talented musician (Saxophone for 8 years, Self-Taught drums for 4 years, guitar and piano for 2 years, vocal for 1 year)
-Won the highest award given by the headmaster for outstanding citizenship after 4 years
-Tri-Lingual (English, Spanish, Amharic)
-URM (African American, 1st Generation)
-Computer Science Major

UNC was high on my list, but not my top choice. Not amazing stats, but my essays and recs were really good, and I thought my level involvement in many activities as well as my hooks could maybe push me over the top, but nothing.

It still says my decision is not yet available. What could that mean?

Rejected (Ugh!
) OOS: Probably part of the international applicant pool (I’m an American citizen living in India)
2250 SAT score (720: CR, 760: Math, 770: Writing)
Predicted IB score: around 40-42 (out of 45, which turns out is not good enough to get into UNC: last year only one person from my school got into UNC and he was predicted around 43)
A bunch of extracurriculars: Chess, tennis, Martial arts and yada, yada, yada…
Community service: taught chess at a school for the poor, helped organize a bake sale to raise funds for people who suffered from the Haiti earthquake and a couple more

Anyhoo, this didn’t really come as a shock to me because of the really competitive OOS/International applicant pool. Plus, I recently got into U.Va (as an Out of Stater), but I would have really liked to attend UNC; it really is a great university. To those of you who got rejected, hang in there and let’s wait together for the rest of our decisions. And, to those of you who got accepted: Congratulations!!!

In state
2060 sat
5.13 gpa weighted/ 3.9 unweighted
already posted all my stats

GO HEELS!!! I CAN’T WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR! CLASS OF 2017

Just to make a point about the randomness/arbitrariness of the process. My daughter found out tonight that she’s been accepted to UNC early action (OOS). UVA deferred her (in state) with exactly the same SATs, essays, ECs, recs, etc.

Rejected OOS
3.8 UW GPA
2120 SAT (720 CR, 680 M, 720 W)
Decent EC’s
Good Essay I guess
8 IB/AP classes
