Early Admission?

I visited Cornell about a month ago and heard from students that applying early admission increases your chances of being accepted, is that true? Also, my guidance counselor informed me earlier that having recommendations from alumni helps as well accompanied with great stats, any truth in that? I was just wondering, because I have three relatives who are supposedly still quite active in Cornell. Thanks!

Yes, applying early helps your chances.
I don’t know about recommendations helping, because you have to remember that they have to read it, but one would probably help.

Having recs from cornell alumni seems a little bit ostentatious in my opinion. I would shy away from that. The supplement asks you if you have any alumni family relations anyways.

Okay thanks! But why exactly does early admission help? Simply because it shows your enthusiastic?

Well, it increases their yield. If you get in during Early Decision, you’re required to attend Cornell. So they know that Cornell is your #1 school.

Yep, it shows that you’re passionate about Cornell. You’d be making a binding commitment to attend Cornell if accepted.
