My daughter is applying ED2 at Holy Cross. She has a weighted GPA of 4.0 with 6 AP classes and all honors, competitive dancer, volunteer dance teacher for 6 years, two jobs, several EC’s, NHS member, youth advisory board member. She had an interview and we’ve shown a lot of demonstrated interest. What are her chances?
Also not submitting test scores
Well…it’s a wait and see. We don’t have any idea of the strength of the ED2 applicants this year.
Your daughter sounds like a very strong student. Ill for her.
In the meantime, just in case…get those regular decision applications either submitted or ready to submit.
I believe her chances are excellent!
What’s her unweighted?
I’m not sure. Her school doesn’t provide us with that number and unfortunately I never asked. It must be a 3.6??
For NHS it needs to be 3.75 but I believe that means weighted as well.
I know in past years, the ED rate was enormously high. We had a nice poster, @billmarsh, who has left us but he noted they over enrolled and perhaps had to cut down.
It is a need aware school - so full pay will rule.
Only 54% submit test scores at least in the last CDS - so over half and remove some athletes that don’t, it’s likely better to have but not a must.
In the past CDS, they had 507 apps and 403 admissions…so you’d seem a slam dunk.
That’s vs. 7036 total and 2558 accepted.
So I would be somewhat optimistic, especially if not requiring a lot of aid…but of course one can never know for sure.
Everyone likes a guaranteed butt in seat!!! It’s likely why their ED rate is so high.
Good luck.
PS - you should figure the unweighted - simply a 4 for A, 3 for B. No extra points for AP or Honors.
Unfortunately the school doesn’t break out a grade distribution but does say 75% of enrollees are in the top 25% of the class so if your student is, that’d be another signal as they consider rank.
Thank you! She’s on top 20% of class. I do know that. This was helpful!
ED1 easier to get in but she has a very good chance. Keep showing interest as they are huge on that
I mean ED 2 is all the interest you need. Don’t forget ED1 will include athletes. Hence a higher amount of admits.
Unless her scores are abysmal, I would encourage her to submit. They may not be outstanding, but if they support her overall academic profile, they can help (and probably won’t hurt). It’s a nice check against grade inflation to show a nationally normed test… and being top 20% if there’s rampant grade inflation doesn’t mean that much.
