Early Decision: Case/Emory/William&Mary/Wash-U

Hi, I’m a current high school senior thinking about where to apply ED. Four schools I’m considering are Case Western Reserve University, Emory University, Washington University in St. Louis, and College of William and Mary. I’m hoping to major in Cognitive Science (Case), neuroscience (Emory/William&Mary) or PNP (Philosophy-Neurosciene-Psychology) at Wash-U.

The most important factors for me in choosing a school are undergrad research opportunities, good academic grad school/career prep., small classes, professer availability, etc. I also want a nice campus enviornment, where I can get involved in different activities of interest, I’ve never really been into sports so no worries if sports aren’t big on campus, but I would like their to be different clubs I can get involved in. Although I’m looking for a school to perpare me for grad school/career, I don’t want the workload to be so impossible that I don’t have any free time to participate in anything else on campus.

I’m not a real “party” person, and I don’t like campuses with a big drug/alcohol presence; I’m pretty introverted myself, but I would like a weekend social scene on campus. For me, work definitely comes before play, but I don’t want to be on a campus where everyone goes home for the weekend/stays in their dorms studying.

Sorry this was a lot of information, but from what I’ve heard these schools are pretty similar and I’d like to get some feedback so I can begin to narrow down my number one choice. If there is any other information I should consider, let me know.

Thanks!

I’d really look into William & Mary. Lots of introverted students I know felt immediately at home there. And it seems like they have a lot of research opportunities. And during the summer lots of colleges and universities offer research positions that could be of interest to you as well.
