Hi,
I’m taking IB Diploma in an American International School outside US.
I don’t have a US/Canadian citizenship or a Green card.
My subjects are:
English Lang&Lit SL: 6
Mandarin ab initio SL: 7
Math SL: 7
Economics HL: 7
Physics HL: 5~6 (studying hard this summer to get at least a 6 / preparing for SAT 2 Physics)
Geography HL: 5~6 (hopefully a 6)
so my GPA is roughly around 3.8~4.0 (our school doesn’t have a GPA scale of 4)
ACT Composite: 31, writing 10 (will retake for >32)
SAT 2 Math 2: 750 (will retake for 800 / achievable easily)
SAT 2 Physics: Will take, hopefully above 750
My EC/Achievements are:
Grade 9 (old school):
Internship/Work experience at the Consulate General (1 week)
Grade 10 (old school -> current school):
N/A due to moving school - nothing much accomplished
Grade 11 (current school):
Vice President of High School Student Council
Roots and Shoots group (Environmental service group in school - something like greenpeace)
High School Math team
High School Volleyball
Editor of the Yearbook Club 2014-2015
(Hopefully Editor-in-chief for the next year yearbook club)
Academic Honor Roll every quarter for Grade 11
Internship/Work experience at a large Heavy Industries company (2 weeks)
My concern is that the subjects I chose are not perfectly matching the requirements for Engineering nor Management/Economics related courses. Like not taking Math HL or Chemistry at all - don’t know why I took Geography HL; thought it was an easy 7.
I just finished my Grade 11 year, so it’s quite late for me to change any of my IB subjects.
Now I’m working on improving my ACT, SAT 2 Math 2 and preparing for SAT 2 Physics this September and October.
So,
What are my chances for ED or RD to UPenn SEAS, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Duke, UWaterloo (Canada) or any other Ivy Engineering schools? I’m not considering Stanford/MIT/Caltech.
The reason I’m considering engineering is because I sort of like working with computers and machines but also for STEM Immigration and job opportunities after I graduate from college.
My original intention was to apply to a Management or Economics-related course in the US and I’m still considering about it.
What are my chances for ED or RD to UChicago, Northwestern, Duke, Johns Hopkins or any other Ivy management schools?
Yes, I’m applying for financial aid since my parents can only contribute US $20000 per year. (Maximum $30000). I heard that ED is not a good choice for those who need financial aid - but somewhat easier to get accepted; so I will try both ED and RD. Any suggestions for my ED choice?
