Who is applying ED to Carleton this month?

Aye! I am. You also have to turn in the CSS profile though, too, which kind of puts a damper on the whole no-long-essay required Carleton supplement thing. :o

I have already submitted my required materials, and am now more than happy to see all the little green check marks next to the list of required materials. And now, I wait. Hopefully my “recruitment” should be enough, coupled with my average numbers in terms of the students admitted

I’m so excited and nervous! I can’t believe the application deadline is almost here. Where did the time go? :)

(What’s CSS by the way?)

I’m skeptical on whether or not I am going to apply early decision to Carleton. On one hand, I love the school and it is my first choice; however, I have not visited it, nor have I had an interview. My decision would be based on contact with other students who currently attend and in depth research on the website. (Also, of course, the relief of knowing I’m actually going to college by December.) Regardless, it seems like a school I would be incredibly happy at and that I could most likely get into. Any advice?

I agree that the website is very comprehensive and students seem genuinely happy with the school. If I were you, though, and unable to visit before 11/15, I’d visit over Thanksgiving or Winter Break and apply EDII. The benefits of being an ED applicant still apply; you’ll just hear a little later. Good luck with whatever you decide!

college550,

the CSS is basically the application most private colleges require an applicant to submit (along with the FAFSA after January 1). If you’re planning on applying for financial aid, you must fill out the CSS Profile. For Fall ED applicants, the deadline to submit the CSS is the same as the Common App/supplement deadline: November 15. If this doesn’t apply to you, then great! If it does, you might want to get started on that, because it’s an absolute pain. :

And yeah, applying ED II is good advice, especially since you’ll have a chance to visit (if you already love Carleton, you’re bound to simply confirm your suspicions on what an awesome school it is. :D

Just submitted my application yesterday!! Now I just have to hurry up and wait. Although being an international student, I am not sure when my decision will arrive. Really nervous now. Hopefully, we will all get in : )

I decided to apply early about a month ago, and my app’s all ready to send but I’ll probably wait til this weekend. How long does this CSS thing take? If my brother goes to Carleton will I still have to fill out my own (shouldn’t our financial aid info be the same?)

Congratulations to everyone who has submitted his or her application! :)

Is anyone else having a hard time with the 300 character limit on the supplement? There is too much to say!

I’m not sure if anyone in this particular thread would be aware, but is the acceptance/rejection “letter” only available in print form or will it be available online? I know I’m only in Wisconsin and will probably one of the first to be informed, but the waiting is already troublesome and any advance, whether it be hours or days, would certainly be either fantastic or heartbreaking.

Unless things are different this year, Carleton always notifies domestic applicants by mail.

Lovely, I will be monitoring my mailbox intently. Are they known to ever notify students before 12/15 or is it always on that date that notifications are mailed out?

Oh, it’s usually a few days before that. Last year, they heard as early as the 10th.

college550
same here! It was really hard cutting down all my words.

mflevity
Do you know about international notifications? I certainly hope I’ll know before 12/15 or I’ll get really anxious.

I know that at least some (if not all) internationals are notified by email. You can look at past ED threads to get an idea of the timing. I think admissions tries really hard to make sure that you find out within the same timeframe as everyone else.

Thanks! Now i just have to try and relax Although I am now worried about my TOEFL scores not arriving on time…I sent the reports last week and they say they need about 7-10 days…Do you know if I’ll get moved to RD if Carleton doesn’t receive my scores by 11/15? Thanks : )

I seriously doubt it, but if you’re worried, shoot the admissions office a quick email.

And don’t forget that there’s the EDII round before RD, so the absolute worst case scenario would be getting your notification with the EDII applicants. But again, I don’t think that’s going to happen.

If you apply ED and anything from a third party is missing, admissions will contact you. My counselor hadn’t signed my ED agreement. Admissions emailed me about it sometime in the week before Thanksgiving last year. I was alarmed because the EDI deadline had long since passed, but I got it signed and faxed it to Carleton in a couple of days. I found a blue and maize folder in my mail around December 12.

thanks griffen for sharing your experience! i feel much better : ) and mflevity I would take your advice and email Carleton to be on the safe side thanks!! hopefully see you next year : )
