Early Decision Decisions

Hi!

Would it be easier for an early decision applicant to get into Tufts University with Native American (with ID) status in addition to legacy status, or to get into Dartmouth College with only the minority status? According to college board, my SATs would place me more comfortably within the middle 50 % range at Dartmouth than at Tufts.

Suggestions?

Here’s a suggestion: why are you debating what will be your definitive first choice college based on its likelihood of accepting you ED? Do you truly feel Tufts and DMouth are that similar?

I would be equally happy attending either school, and since I only get one shot at an ED application, I want to make it to the school that will be the most likely to accept me.

Are you sure about that?

In general, Dartmouth is more selective , but they are quite committed to getting Native American students. Could we know your stats more specifically?

I am certain.

Here’s the answer you are looking for:

If you can get in ED to Dartmouth without legacy, you can definitely get in ED to Tufts with legacy.

I’m not looking to make this into a “Chance Me At Tufts and Dartmouth” thread, but, since you asked, my stats are as follows:

SAT: 2120
German Language SAT II: 700
Literature SAT II: 710
Top 10th of class

I think you would probably get in both.

You would have a good chance at both schools.

Dartmouth LOVES Native Americans (read about its early commitment to native students on its history page). With your scores, you have very high chances of admittance, assuming there are no blotches on your record (suspensions, arrests, etc.)

I’m gonna say you have a great shot at either one, especially b/c you want to apply ED and you have a hook. Your added hooks at Tufts is your legacy, but you probably don’t need that since your scores are good too.

This surprises me. According to our Naviance, kids who got into Dartmouth had a gpa of 4.53 and 2270 SAT. At Tufts, kids had a 4.40 gpa and 2180 SAT. So I would say Dartmouth’s harder to get into, at least for our students.

Tufts is quite a bit easier to get into than Dartmouth. With legacy status you’d have a good shot without being NA. I do agree you look good at both.
