Early Grad Update

I posted a few months ago asking about how early graduation would impact my college admissions. Basically, I’m graduating after my junior year because I ran out of classes at my high school, the only classes I hadn’t taken yet were like ceramics, auto shop, and other classes that wouldn’t give me a challenging senior year. (I started taking high school classes in middle school and my school won’t let me be considered a student unless I have a full schedule at that school, so cc enrollment wasn’t an option (man rural schools are crazy)).

I’m so grateful for all the help I got and I thought I’d post an update of where I’ve gotten into so anyone else in my situation can have some guidance

A quick rundown of my stats

UW: 4.0
W: 4.3
SAT: 1460
ACT: 33
SAT II: I don’t quite remember because I didn’t send these many places (and frankly didn’t care about the scores much). I think I got a 700 on Math II, 710 on Physics, and a 700 on Spanish???

ECs: Academic Decathlon Starter, founder of Spanish Club and a March for Our Lives Chapter, Academic Superbowl starter and captain, started my own organization to help those with dementia, attended Duke University for two summers, Theatre, and Show Choir

Major: Neuroscience or equivalent (some schools didn’t have neuroscience but had something very similar, like Biopsychology)

I am pre-med

Current courseload: AP Calc AB, Spanish III Honors, US History, Medical Interventions (this is a medical-oriented lab-based class), AP Chem, English W131 (a composition course offered through my state’s flagship university), AP Bio, and AP Seminar

Essays: Writing is one of my strong suits so I think they were pretty good! I had them proofread by multiple people and they were very personal. My common app essay was about distancing myself from my Puerto Rican culture when I moved from a Puerto Rican neighborhood to a small farm town (and my subsequent reembracing of my culture)

Okay now to the meat of this post, I just thought I’d include my stats for any other early grad to look at

I applied to: University of Arizona, University of Miami (EA), University of Colorado Boulder (EA), UNC-CH (EA), Tulane (EA), University of Southern California (I applied by that scholarship deadline, I didn’t get selected for one of those scholarships though rip), UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, UCI, Duke University, Vanderbilt

Where I’ve been accepted so far: University of Arizona (35k/yr) University of Miami (20k/yr), University of Colorado Boulder (25k/yr)

Where I didn’t get into: UNC-CH (I was waitlisted, I didn’t accept my spot on the waitlist because it’s not one of my top choices), Tulane (deferred)

Schools I’m waiting on: USC, UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, UCI, Duke, Vandy

Currently, I think I’m going to end up going to U of A. It’s not the most prestigious of the bunch, but their scholarship offer combined with external scholarships I’ve received makes it nearly free to attend for me. Since I want to attend med school, I definitely want to minimize my debt. I have yet to visit the campus and I’m still waiting on decisions from my top picks (UCSB and USC), so my mind definitely may change. I’m also considering UMiami because it will bring me closer to my family in Puerto Rico, but the 50k a year I have remaining is a big deterrence for me.

I’ll keep posting as more decisions come in, I just thought it would be nice to update everyone who helped me out and to provide guidance for anyone else in my situation. Again, thank you to everyone for all the advice I’ve received!!
