This morning I was watching the Early Show…and they did a short bit on “Most affordable colleges”. Their “acid test” was the %age and amount of aid the schools provided. Not surprisingly the top three privates were Swarthmore, Princeton and Yale. However, I was a bit disgruntled that they failed to mention that these three schools also are amongst the MOST difficult for acceptance. They even said “don’t dismiss applying to private schools like these”. I wanted to throw a shoe at the TV. YES…these schools have terrific finaid IF you are one of the lucky ones in about 10% of students who are accepted. The impression they left was that everyone should consider applying to these schools because they are so affordable with the great aid they give.

Is it me?? Or might it have been nice if they had done a segment about affordable colleges for the less than elite student?
