<p>The hospital is now reporting 87 injuries, 3 critical. This was a big one. Damage estimates up to a-billion dollars.</p>
<p>I am south of SF, about 85 miles south of Vallejo. We felt it, but no damage. I think SF and that region will be fine. </p>
<p>To me, earthquakes are the scariest natural disaster out there. There is no warning whatsoever and it typically affects a large area. <p>SF is about an hour south of the Napa/Vallejo area; should be fine.</p>
<p>I’m seeing lots of facebook posts from my friends and loved ones at Sonoma State (where I did my undergrad, about 15-30 minutes from Vallejo) and all seems fine there. Someone did mention that their wine cellar survived unscathed. I have a good friend who runs a tasting room at a winery in Healdsburg, which is also in that area; I’m interested to see how things are there.</p>
<p>My undergrad did post that they had already surveyed all the buildings and that campus is fine. </p>

<p>What sad news and a blow to the local wine industry and tourism. I was just about to book a hotel in Napa for the September trip Mr B and I have been planning. </p>

<p>Well, thank goodness it wasn’t the BIG one. Hopefully, our structures and retro-fittings are beginning to help with lessening some of the damage.</p>

<p>I’m listening to cnn and they’re reporting 89 people went to hospitals including 4 critical. Very concerning. </p>
<p>Cnn showed aerial shots of the parking lot of the hospital - they are getting ready for the flood of injured patients . A tent is up in the parking lot and a bunch of cots and stretchers is on the ground. Wow, this is going to be tough. One of the injured is a child - a fireplace fell on him/her. So sad. </p>
<p>The earthquake is bigger than I thought last night.</p>
<p>After the quake, we stayed up for 30 minutes because of the concern of potential after-shock.</p>
<p>Hope everybody is fine or at least would not hurt much.</p>
<p>I think Sacramento seems to be closer to the epiccenter than the south bay area. Another potential concern is that there appears to be some military bases and likely some nuclear plants here. Wonder whether there is any damage there. Whenever there is an earth quake, it reminds me of the recent nuclear disaster in Japan. (although tsunami tends to be scarier and more destructive.)</p>

<p>no damage here and did not feel the quake. Am around 60 miles from epic center. However, I have a property around 30 miles from the epic center, tenant did not report damages.</p>
<p>S lives in Santa Cruz, fairly far south of SF. It woke him up and was more of a “gentle rolling” there. He’s felt none of the aftershocks though and was surprised he felt it that far from the epicenter.</p>
<p>DH left at 6am from the east coast for SF. Connecting flight from Las Vegas to SF was cancelled and he was rebooked to San Jose, where he plans to rent a car to get to SF.</p>

<p>My son’s roommate’s dad owns wineries in Oakville so I checked their FB page and everyone there is OK. They also had a post from a few days ago that they just harvested their 2014 Chardonnay but the Cab Sauvignon won’t be harvested until mid-September. </p>
