Many outside the Northeast haven’t heard of it, but Muhlenberg is a “backup” for those who can’t get into Brandeis, NYU…With your SAT’s you could get a partial academic scholarship.

Actually, that is misinformation about the U of Chicago. The admission rate this year was around 27% this year and applicants to the school are extremely self selecting. What that means is that basically only top students apply, so that in general you probably would need to have around a 3.6 cum and up and SAT scores around 1400 exclusive of the writing part to be a strong candidate.

Georgia Tech is one of the top 5 engineering schools in the US (behind Stanford/MIT/Berkeley) and has a 68% acceptance rate.

Wow some really great suggestions here

I second Georgia Tech for engineering.

Very well regarded.

A good friend of mine is probably going to GT, but I really just couldn’t see myself there.

I’ve always been more of an English and Art kinda guy, not so much Science and Math (Although I still enjoy these subjects)

U Michigan has always really interested me (although massive and frigid weather), but for some reason I always thought it was really tough to get into… I know a kid who goes there and he seems to really like it, and we’re pretty similar

dpx1192. Michigan is tough to gain admittance, especially from OOS. Many of the comments you read on CC are from students/others who only like to compare admittance stats for Michigan with IL and other schools with very high rankings/student selectivity and small/smaller enrollments. Reading these threads you’d think a big school like Michigan is a piece of cake to enter. It is not. Btw, a 3.3 GPA from OOS is more than likely not going to get you an admittance. Best of luck to you. I hope you get into the school of your choice. :-)

Yeah ^^^ thats what I was thinking.
I mean I think it is a possibility , but I don’t think I’d put a college like U Michigan in the match column haha

If you get all your application materials into Michigan by mid September you might have a fair chance.

How about UNC or is that definitely out of reach?

These smaller state colleges are starting to interest me, but they may be a bit large…

What are some other sweet colleges that have a bigger school flare (sports, frats, spirit) that are in cool towns/cities.

northwestern most definitely, but that is most likely a reach for you as well…but hey everyone needs reaches too…

You kind of have stats similar to myself and seem to be looking at the same things I am. This site is extremely skewed to one view point and to most people here - your stats suck - which is far from the truth. I had a 3.4 GPA and a 1280 SAT and was wondering the same question you are.

If you want a fun, prestigious (in most eyes) school, I’d recommend some of the following:

NC State - saftey
UNC - slight reach (if you are in state, you would have good chance)
Georgia
Kansas
Arizona
Oregon
Oklahoma

Thanks for that list

So far I’m thinking
Syracuse
Boston University
Tulane
UMiami
UNC
Occidental
Northwestern
UMichigan
Northeastern
RISD
Fordham
USC

You have a good list there. Get a safety, however, preferably early. If you apply to UMich early, they will let you know early, but it is not a safety for you until you get in. Please find a school you can apply to that is sure to take you that you like. The rest is all gravy. You do have a good chance of getting into a number of your listed schools, but you just never know. THis year was a tough year for kids, I think.

Yeah…

I was thinking FSU and College of Charleston as safeties

Northwestern and Michigan are “reach” schools with your stats, as is UNC if you’re OOS. But I wouldn’t rule them out. You might also consider William & Mary (probably another reach), U Wisconsin-Madison, U Washington, Miami U (Ohio), and U Colorado-Boulder, though most of these are pretty large.

bclintonk

yeah, I also know that a few of those are reaches but I see no reason why not to aim high if I have what I consider a few good colleges to fall back on!

U Washington also interested me alot, having a cousin who just graduated from there and LOVED it doesn’t hurt either!

I suggest you apply as early as possible to UMich and your safety so that you have their answers. If you get into UMich, then you can cut your list to those schools you prefer to that. If you are deferred or denied at Mich, you may want to think out your list but hopefully your safety has panned out. If your safety turns out not to be a safety, and you do not get in there, you are going to have to look long and hard for a good sure shot.

I’m pretty sure I’ll get into FSU or College of Charleston considering almost 100% of my high school gets into FSU haha

Anyone else have some safety suggestions?
