easiest school of NYU?

which NYU undergraduate college is the easiest to get into? by that i mean less competitive, and higher acceptance i guess

well, the Liberal Studies Program (LSP) is for people who were declined immediate admission to another school (usually CAS) so it’s easiest to get into…but you can’t apply, unless it’s for the Global Liberal Studies major (a regular 4 year major).

Stern is the most competitive for admissions, closely followed by CAS and Tisch. SCPS, Steinhardt, and Gallatin are less competitive for admissions, and I don’t really know about Nursing or Social Work so I won’t comment on that. Nursing in general is competive though.

Less competitive for admissions doesn’t mean not as good though. Steinhardt has top programs in its fields (education, culture, media, etc) but the acceptance rate is higher. This is partly because people who apply to Steinhardt already know what they want to study, whereas CAS gets the most applicants because its the biggest school, and you can apply Undecided. Stern gets tons of applicants because Business/Economics is the most popular major in America and Stern is well-regarded.

In terms of academics only, Stern would be most difficult. But Tisch admission is half academics and half audition/portfolio, and because that other half is so subjective, and because Tisch film and musical theater is considered one of the best in the country, it can be more difficult to get admitted there than to Stern.

CAS admissions, in terms of competitiveness, is about middle of the road. I do agree that Steinhardt, SCPS, Gallatin are easier. I can’t confirm anything but Gallatin is often the butt of a lot of jokes here. Some people consider people in Gallatin to be undeserving of NYU because they feel that it’s so easy to get into that particular school. I don’t think that’s true, but this is just what I’ve heard from other students while going here for over a year now.

I’d say Stern is obviously academically the hardest, but I’ve never heard Gallatin be the butt of any jokes, it’s very hard to get in to Gallatin because they’re looking for a level of independence and maturity that most students haven’t attained by their senior year of high school. There are a lot of jokes regarding people who (mis)use the opportunities available to them through Gallatin to study things that sound pretty ludicrous, but it’d be silly to think it was one of the easier schools to be accepted to. Tisch is obviously incredibly competitive as well. I’d say that Steinhardt and SCPS are probably the easiest, and CAS is just somewhere in the middle.

And just saying, one of the transfers I met at Gallatin Orientation had transferred in from MIT, and another from Dartmouth, so…

well Stern is definitely not the hardest academically; the Business program at NYU is significantly harder than most colleges, but subjects like Business, International Business, Accounting, etc, are generally not considered the most difficult college majors. I would say the hardest majors at NYU are in CAS, like Math and Physics - the Math program is one of the best in the country, too, and Physics is just hard everywhere.

So if you mean easiest by admissions, it’s definitely LSP/Gallatin/SCPS/Steinhardt (I think in that order) and Stern is the hardest admissions-wise. But if you meant difficult in terms of academics, then I would say CAS has the traditionally “difficult majors”. Stern students do not have it easy like most Business majors, but my boyfriend is in Stern Finance and I’m in a science major in CAS, and he definitely has the smaller workload. A lot of it depends on what you’re personally good at too.

Tisch doesn’t require amazing grades, but you have to be very talented in an area, and some Tisch majors spend a lot of time practicing, rehearsing, etc, so that’s pretty time-consuming and demanding as well.
