East coast snow storm ?

So , it is looking like another storm is set to hit the east coast this weekend…my area of south, coastal NJ might be one of the areas bearing the brunt.
I , for one love a good snowstorm , but am truly wasted from the constant bombardment of storms we have had this year. It never just rains anymore…it is always an event with damage. Floods, wind . Now the next nor’easter just may come in as snow as the precip.
Normally, I would feel a bit of joy knowing that we might have a rare white Christmas, but as a retailer that has been pounded with unfortunate weather every weekend since Thanksgiving, I truly hope that this one just blows out to sea…

I also remeber last year this time, many of our college students were returning home during multiple storms all over the country, so I hope all of our kids will be home before the storm holds things up…my kids will !!

Thankfully we are going up to Ma. to bring our daughter home tomorrow. We have dodged big storms two years in a row now. I hope this trend continues for the next two years.

Geez I hope it’ll stay south of Connecticut. More weather we do not need!

Retailer here also, and while we’re running several points ahead of last year, I’d like to keep it that way. My shop is in a little strip center and we are highly impacted by poor weather. And my landlord seems particularly clueless lately that retail is a 7-day sport. None of this Monday-Friday stuff … we are here and open every single day, weather or not!

I was just thinking that this cold weather in MA is now putting me in the holiday spirit. A big storm will stink for retailers this weekend, but maybe they will make it up during the week.

Just had to change my travel plans for the weekend…so sad! Was going to head down to N Cape May, but H’s aunt who lives down there cautioned us to rethink plans; I have to be back up in North Jersey on Monday (taking the GRE of all things), so we’ll stay up here–sounds like all the action is S. Jersey.

lje–it’s a sin what’s happening to the beaches down there; every time we go, more land is lost. The water table is higher than we’ve ever seen, standing water everywhere; we’re getting flooding in the basement even though the house is on high ground, coming up with the raised water levels.

I want some Christmastime snow.

I’ll be very happy to have the first snow of the year on tomorrow/Saturday.

I was really disappointed that we missed last week’s snow (Eastern VA).

mamom- The weather in Mass. was amazing over Thanksgiving, it hit 55 degrees and we were roasting in our wool coats! What a lovely surprise.

We had a white Christmas here in San Diego - about 10,000 years ago near the end of the last ice age.

S (the one who turned down Stanford because of no snow) came home in 20deg weather wearing only a Land’s End Marinac windbreaker (not fashionable, I know, but his very favorite item of clothing) unzipped, and no gloves (had forgotten to take them along last August).
We have friends from a tropical country. The 13-year old wants to experience a white Christmas.

We have been keeping an eye on what is in store for us on Saturday. It now looks like we will be seeing snow in PA. Hope we make it back okay from campus!

Please, oh please … don’t dump too much snow on JFK Sunday. My D returns from Scotland this weekend & we can’t wait to see her. She flies into JFK & will fly to Detroit after a long layover. I did give her & her friend each a SkyPass, so they will be able to relax in the Delta lounge. If they get snowed in, they will be able to stay there. But if they can’t even fly in … well, that would not be fun.

Good luck folks. It is awful when you have loved ones traveling in bad weather. It is bad enough worrying about late arrivals, lost luggage, etc. etc. (you know what the etc’s are. No need to explicitly state!)

Got this off my weatherbug–

"Could a Major Snowstorm Plow Across Mid-Atlantic?
UPDATED 10 PM EST, December 17, 2009
By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Chad Merrill
A major snowstorm could ruin the last Saturday for Christmas shopping from the Carolinas into the Delaware Valley as a storm charges up the coast, possibly leaving a significant snow in its wake. The bulls-eye for the most snow could be from the I-81 to the I-95 corridor, impacting major metropolitan areas such as Richmond, Va., to Philadelphia, including Washington, Baltimore and Wilmington, Del.

Total snow accumulations are hard to pinpoint at this time because there is still uncertainty in the exact storm track and intensity, but 6 to 12 inches of snow cannot be ruled out. Amounts will likely be lower closer to coast where rain may max in and farther from the storm across the western part of the Appalachian Mountains…"

I see a 40% to 50% chance of snow for the NY to Boston corridor on Sunday morning at this point. My D is scheduled to come in to NY from Boston Sunday night. Last year she beat the snow by a few hours…this year I think I may be more worried more about icy roads due to freezing nighttime temps.

It will warm up Monday (and if that lasts) by Xmas there will probably just be a few dirty slush piles left --Happy Dirty Slushy Xmas–funny how there’s no cheery holiday song for that event.

I like snow, but not shoveling it or traveling in it. :frowning:
I’ll Just cross my fingers that it weakens and doesn’t amount to much as it travels further north up the coast–after all, the weather people are not always so on target.

Washington DC could be hit hard - +12" of snow today and tomorrow. NYC can expect some too - 5-10" Sat-Sunday.
W NC, Virginia, MD, E PA and NJ will take the brunt of this one for now… I think there is another one right behind it.
Time to go stock up on bread, milk and toilet paper. ;)

Figures. We’re having DH’s office Christmas party on Saturday night. I don’t know how many of them will brave the snow to show up, but the caterer is planning for 40 people.

I’ve already warned my friends that if the party is cancelled or sparesly attended, I expect help eating all the leftover food on Sunday. Actually, now that I think about it, an “open house” afternoon with food/friends/football would probably be more enjoyable than Saturday night with work acquaintances…maybe I do want a big snow storm here in the Philly 'burbs!

Ha! for once I beat the weather Gods. DS was supposed to fly home from Boston to CA on Saturday. When I found out his finals ended Wednesday I paid $90. and changed his flight to Thursday. He is (I should say was!) home…we got in about 10:30pm and by 11:00pm he was out the door and went to a friends…

DD’s study abroad program scheduled her to fly to Dulles on Saturday, but a wedding to attend on Saturday and a last exam on Thursday had us arrange for a Friday flight out, thank God. She’s on her way as I type :)

NOOOOO!!!

Getting one college child cross country last year was an incredible task. And months of follow up with the airline that truly started that particular fiasco - my kiddo was a day ahead of last year’s weather until the airline pulled a “bump” and wouldn’t/couldn’t reschedule until the next day!

I’ve been watching the New York area weather all week and feeling moderately hopeful. Now this thing is going to slip in and maybe muck things up again? Better warn “the child” to be prepared.

Son has an exam at 11 am Saturday and a 4:15 flight Saturday out of BWI. Why do I think I am not going to see him until Monday??

Argh!!! The first Winter League Lacrosse match in Northern Virginia is scheduled for the exact time that the snow is due to arrive. Lake Jr. can’t wait to play and I’m crossing my fingers for fear of being on the roads with folks who don’t seem to know the first thing about driving in inclement weather.
