<p>I got accepted to Wisconsin and live in New York.</p>
<p>I am considering the option of both public and private dorms. I understand private dorms has most of the east-coasters living in them. However, I was wondering if I lived in a public dorm would I be seen as part of the outcast? Most of the kids in public dorms are from Wisconsin, so would I be out of place being from New York?</p>
<p>hey, i got into wisconsin too and i’m thinking about going. I’m from CT and my sister is a jr there. She lived in private dorms (Towers) since thats where all the out of staters lived then, and she loved it - it was so nice. But now its become much more expensive so i’m thinking alot of kids who would normally want private will go to public dorms. I’ll probably do that too, i was thinking Ogg.</p>
<p>Ogg will be gone in a year. I’d avoid it.</p>
<p>So would I feel out of place living in a public dorm, say, the Lakeshore dorms (Cole, Sullivan, Slichter etc…)? </p>
<p>I like the Lakeshore dorms because it seems like they has a nice view, and is away from that whole party scene. I figure that if I want to party, there will always be a party to go to. However, if I live in a dorm like Ogg which has a huge party scene and I don’t want to get involved, I can’t get away from it. At least if I stay in Lakeshore, I can stay away from the party scene for a night if I choose to.</p>
<p>What are your opinion on these dorms in general?</p>
<p>You will find this helpful. I asked a UW student who graduated from my east-coast high school. Her opinions were very helpful in my decision to avoid private dorms.</p>

<p>I am attending UW next year and am residing in Statesider, another private dorm. Statesider is, in my opinion, the best private dorm there is. Towers is in fact very jappy, snotty, and just not very chill. For instance, the doors can’t even stay open, they shut automatically. Statesider however is a very chill dorm, I stayed there in December and visited my friend, also from New York. Let me tell you, I had a great time, and the people I met were extremely friendly and not uptight east coasters. Many were from Chicago and West coast. In fact, there were people there from Towers trying to get away from their dorm.<br>
These two dorm buildings happen to be right across from eachother, basically overlooking State Street. I do not regret my decision to be in the private dorms because I feel like being in a dorm with outsiders will facilitate my transition into UW. I do wonder what life would be like in a public dorm, but I stick by my choice. It’s totally up to you though, either way is good…I just personally would not choose towers, I know about 12 kids living there and they are pretty much all from Long Island or Jewish New Jersey. So i can pretty much guarentee a jappy existence in Towers. Good luck with your choice, anyway will be good. On Wisconsin!</p>
<p>Viper: I don’t know your background but you’d be well-advised to cut the stereotyping. You may not think it’s offensive but it is. And it only creates an atmosphere in which bigots can thrive.</p>
<p>I’m Jewish and from Long Island and take pride in not being part of that sterotype. However, I do get extremely offended from your comments, viper.</p>
<p>I can say plenty of things about where you’re from, but I don’t. Why? Because I have respect for you and who you are. I’m sorry, but if you can’t express yourself without a derogitory tone, maybe you just shouldn’t post. </p>

<p>ooph…i’m really sorry guys, i didn’t mean to offend you… i have really close friends from long island, and i’m jewish also…i realize i just stereotyped really bad, and i actually have friends who are gonna stay in towers…so again, i’m really sorry about that…</p>
<p>haha - nerdbourne. I put CLC as my first choice - Sellery and i forget what other were my other top choices. I put down the LakeShores as last because it’s too quiet for me - plus they are really far from the main city and chemistry classes.</p>
<p>I got my housing contract yesterday, for a student who wants quieter surroundings who doesn’t want to be in a dorm where its all partying yet wants to be able to attend a party when they choose to and not be surrounded by it, how would you rank these halls?</p>

<p>I do know of some “coasties” who have lived in public dorms. It isn’t as common, but not unheard of. Mostly WI, IL, and MN kids in them. </p>
<p>I’d stay in Statesider over the Towers. It is a jappy heaven. It’s not a sterotype if it’s true.</p>
<p>Transfer, I have to agree with you. Being Jewish from Long Island doesn’t necessarily mean you’re jappy, but Towers is def jappy. You have to see it first for yourself.</p>

Viper - you obviously haven’t traveled much or have never left New York - believe me, you won’t want people to use the term “jap” to describe you, so why use it?? You are spreading a stereotype.</p>

<p>I just checked the prices of both and Towers is much cheaper than Statesider. Looks like i’m stuck with Towers if i choose private housing… hope its not as bad as it sounds.</p>

<p>Alright, I think I might have my list made up. Tell me your opinions and if there’s anything you would change and why. </p>
<p>I’m the type that’s going to want to study during the week in quiet, only attend a party when I want to, and will be in the College of Ag and life science (Bio major). Of the list I posted above, for that criteria would this be a smart list to submit?</p>
