Eastview Terrace or West Halls?

Which has a better social scene? I know the dorms are better in Easview but I’m concerned that it is going to be too far away from all my classes and that I’ll have trouble making friends with the people on my floor. As far as West goes, I just don’t really know much about what it’s like to live there. I know it has good food and is close to Rec Hall but that’s about it.
I’m going to be a sophomore on campus next year and have a housing contract to live in Eastview Terrace. Someone wants to trade me a single room contract in West for it. Which is better?

West, West, West!

Eastview is far from everything and very, very quiet. If you live in Eastview, bring your bike-you will need it.

Eastview Terrace is like a dorm/apartment hybrid. It’s gorgeous and much less crowded than the other dorm complexes and has a more “mature” atmosphere. The location is actually very convenient to lots of stuff, like downtown and some classroom buildings. However, it is quieter and people tend to stay to themselves and the friends they’ve already established, so if you’re looking for a very interactive social scene where floor mates all keep their doors propped open and hang out together, you’d probably prefer West.

Stay in Eastview. My son will be in Eastview next year (sophomore in Harris Hall). He (and a few people he has already met) are very outgoing and want to continue to meet new people. Remember, the personalities of the dorm change every year with different students. Eastview is also beautiful. You have your own bathroom, there are 3 lounges/tvs on each floor, 3 study rooms on each floor, and 3 laundry rooms on each floor). It is also not far from everything…the HUB, South (Redifer) and Pollock dining halls are very close. Downtown is close, the White Bldg, Nittany Apts are also close. As for class rooms: Boucke, Thomas, Chem Bldg, Osmond, etc…are very close. The only hike is to the Forum (and the bldgs in that area) and the Library…approx 12 min walk. My son is in East this year, and trust me, he wasn’t always close to everything either. While the Forum was close, other bldgs weren’t.

Good luck in what you choose.

Im in the same boat. Im gonna be a sophomore living in east view next year but I was kinda scared cause I didn’t want to be a loner or for everyone living there to be really antisocial and weird. Three of my other friends got it too so we decided to all just keep it and we are all normal outgoing people so hopefully other people living there will be too. I was in supplemental this year so its gonna be a huge difference from having 6 roommates to none so really Im just hoping for the best and I really couldn’t say no to having my own bathroom and room. So you’re not alone and I think east view will end up turning out being really sweet.

If your major is in the sciences, West would be a good choice (many of the engineering majors, etc, live in the West dorms). Eastview suites are very nice, but fairly small as individual rooms; West rooms are the largest on campus (but it’s not enormous, even so), near Rec Hall and the fitness center, not to mention Pattee.

Eastview is also among the most expensive choices for board, and they really are fairly far from classes. Your worry about social isolation is unfounded, however. Plenty of friendly happy people live there, too.
