Easy to transfer between colleges?

I was admitted to a Chemistry and a Neuroscience major. Recently, I have decided that I want to do Chemical Engineering and International Business. Is it easy to transfer out of the College of Arts and Sciences into Viterbi and Marshall? Is it just a simple form to fill out or do I have to prove merits?

(I mean…transferring from Chemistry to Chemical Engineering…that should happen all the time, right? I admit transferring into Marshall could be difficult…Thoughts?)

In addition, is it easy to transfer from USC to UC-Berkeley and UCLA? Since I’m not a Cali resident, I didn’t bother to apply to those places and I was wondering how long it took to establish California residency and apply to UCB and UCLA if tuition gets too expensive or I don’t like it there.

Also, I have been admitted to UFlorida. I have a full ride there and then some…I was wondering if you guys think it’s worth it for me take on 100K+ in debt to come to USC vs. going to UF.

Thanks for the help on this multi-faceted thread…

It’s really difficult to become a resident of CA once you’re in the state as a student. You should NOT count on being able to do that, but can google to find out what you’d need to do.

Only you & your family can weigh the pros & cons of going to USC & taking on debt vs. free full-ride from UFla. Many folks are facing similar choices–in our case, son would get a free ride from AzSU, but he’s not interested in attending. <sigh></sigh>

University of Florida I hear is a pretty good school…if you like UF, going there would be amazing, I think.

bizump…bizumpbizump

UF is a huge public commuter school. Attending UF is a completely different experience compared to attending a large private residential university like USC. Most UF students live off campus with the same friends with whom they attended high school. It is a very different atmosphere.

My son did not apply to UF. He has no interest in attending a commuter school.

JuiceBox: Maybe the same in FL, the UC website has info that you want on this subject. It’s improbable to become a CA resident to pay less tuition unless your family moves to CA and establishes CA residency also.

In regards to your original question, people have told me that it is extremely easy to double major / change major across different disciplines. However, the only school I would think that might be difficult to transfer into would be CNTV, but I am pretty sure it is possible, but probably not as easy as Marshall or Viterbi.

One of my friends was originally a chem major in CLAS, but she just switched into Viterbi to major in ChE. She is a bit behind though, and has to take the intro to chemE class next semester along with an extra chemistry course. However, they did exempt her from the freshman academy requirement as well as Math 126 (she had taken 125 earlier).
