Booked a flight to visit Northwestern even though acceptance is not in. Can’t wait until last minute as cost goes way up. Easier to eat the $100 flight change if not accepted.

Eating Flight change charges at elites and room deposits at safeties… love this process.
Perhaps attending sight unseen is OK :)

NU has a calendar with visits and appointments you can set up. They will announce who is in about April 1st so I am booking visits on Monday April 9th. Hopefully that should be enough time and still give son time to make a quality decision.

do they have an admitted student’s weekend? If so, book for then. It is much more fun, and your son will get a chance to meet others who have been accepted. and I’m assuming your son will get in!

Who knows on acceptances maybe yes or maybe no. He is right at the 75% for NU but he did not like his essay there as much as his USC and PENN essay (same one). He tries to ignore the whole thing now and is planning his last few months of HS and Summer Activities. We are going on a 50 mile hike into the Bob Marhsall Wilderness of Montana.

Like your situation, he has the Safety Full ride in the Desert and he is comfortable with that school so he is not fretting it. Flagship though not the Tempe School. He also has USC and a couple of tier 2 schools in hand now so actually he is pretty relaxed.

Before anyone else books flights: take a look at last-minute package deals generally available on services like Travelocity and Expedia. These can be very good for a combined flight with car rental and/or hotel for a short stay (2-3 days). You may end up paying more with a 30 day advance reservation than you would booking only a week in advance – especially when you factor in the savings on car rental or hotel that come with some of the packages.

Hotels are another matter altogether – it may make a LOT of sense to reserve rooms now, because usually there is no penalty for cancellation – but it can be hard to find a room on short notice. So if you can hold a room for yourself with a confirmed reservation … now might be the time to do it.
