EBAY question…..

I’m embarrassed to ask this but I know you’ll know the answer.( My husband sells on ebay sometimes and he doesn’t know, either.) In the gift card purchase section, some cards are selling for more than the face value of the card. Why would anyway pay $55.00 for a $50.00 Starbucks card?

Most likely the buyer is planning on filing an Item Not As Described case, and will end up getting the card for free.

or, combined with the shipping charge it is still cheaper to buy it on ebay then through the store’s website. Sometimes people want to buy gift cards to stores they can’t get to easily in order to get the card in person.

If you file an “Item not as described” claim on Ebay, you have to return the item for refund.

I can’t think of a reason why a 50$ face value card will sell for 55$, normally it will be discounted. You can buy discount gift card on line, don’t need ebay.

It’s possible it’s a fundraiser for some cause and they’re simply using EBay as the best way to handle the auction.

fundraiser does make sense, however, after the mailing and ebay “final valuation fees of 10%” the fund raiser(seller) need to get the cards deep discounted to justify.

I have heard (don’t know how true it is) that some people have ebay credit card/points/rewards/discounts, and that’s why they prefer to buy it there.

Also, scams with payments for gift card are rampant. It happened to me. I got the payment, gave them the code, and then they reversed the payment, claiming that their card was stolen or something like that or email was hacked. I got my money through PayPal, but they actually informed me that there are a lot of scams out there with people buying gift cards that only come with a code. I don’t remember all the details now, but that may be another reason.
