<p>For the EC essay, are there any topic I should avoid? I’ve written it on football (since I really love the sport and I think it’s a perfect topic for this essay), but colleges will likely see that I am a very sporty person from my ECs, etc. Would having too much emphasis on sports in my application hurt ? </p>

<p>Your EC essay should focus more on the “why” than on the “what.” Articulate your motives for doing football. Even though you may list your sports in other parts of the application, I doubt you’re elaborating on their significance to you anywhere other than in the EC essay. </p>
<p>Having said this, you should not write your EC essay about football if you discuss football AT LENGTH in another essay (i.e., your main essay).</p>
<p>Your essay should tell the school something about yourself that is not available elsewhere in the app. Ideally, they will learn something that makes them more interested in having you as a part of their community. I’d be happy to review it for you.</p>
