EC short answer: Which topic should I pick?

So the short answer is only 1000 characters, which is about 160 words. I’ve been debating between 2 topics: singing and the Governor’s Youth Commission (a service-based organization).
Singing:
I was thinking about taking more of an unorthodox approach in that I would talk about warming up the voice before singing. It’s kind of rough right now but I would probably say how warming up the voice is under-appreciated but it allows you to sing healthier, displays your entire voice, and with a wider range. It may not sound the best but it’s actually the most beautiful kind of thing. In the same way I am constantly pushing for progress and trying to take advantage of all my resources.
The issue I see with this is they’re looking for you to describe an extracurricular activity and what it means to you and I am zooming in on a more narrow aspect.

Governor’s Youth Commission:
We basically encourage others to do service by holding workshops and implementing our own. We are a state-funded organization.
The main thorn with this one is most people don’t know what it’s about and so I might spend half my essay elaborating. I wanted to write about since I hold a leadership position, but I’m conflicted…I would have to say I’m more passionate about singing I’m just afraid colleges will think I’m not addressing the prompt.

I sincerely appreciate all constructive feedback. Thank you for your time!

Your “warming up the voice” essay sounds wonderful, but save it for another place, such as your personal statement. In the EC essay, they’re just looking for more information on what you do, not for a work of art.

i agree with bruno. use the warming up the voice one for your actual common app essay. I think you should go for the governor’s youth commission for your EC short answer. it’s unique, you have things to write about, and it’s straightforward.
