Hey. I am a junior interested in CS and ECE and was considering UMass’s programs, when I found some things in the curriculums of both programs that deeply disturbed me.

CS- foreign languadge requierment: apparently there is a ridiculous foreign languadge requierment for the CS program as it is in the science department, making kids take four FL courses. The website said I can get out of this by passing a competency exam in another languadge. I speak fluent Russian, but Russian isn’t offered by Umass. Could I take a Russian exam anyway somehow?

ECE- Apparently two of the requiered ece courses, ece 122 and ece 242 are both Java object oriented courses, and the material covered seems to be the same as the material in CS 1 and CS 2. I took AP comp sci AB, giving me credit for CS 1 and 2. However, The school doesn’t seem to give me credit for the ece versions of these classes. Can I still place out of these courses, or would I have to retake them?
