from: [Registration Information — UNC Advising](http://advising.unc.edu/Registration%20Info.htm)

“incorrect second level activity”

means you are trying to sign up for a recitation that is an inappropriate section for the lecture section you have on your schedule. The lecture section number and recitation section number are linked. Refer to the Directory of Classes for this information.

the recitations are linked to certain professors. your recitations will be almost exclusively taught by teaching assistants (TA’s) who are the prof’s grad school student **es. as a result, the recitation number and TA must match up with the professor, as that TA will attend every class that professor teaches. look for the numbers following the course number and match them up to the recitation. or, what you could do, is just show up for class the first day, then wait for the professor to ask if everyone’s signed up for a recitation, then wait for the dozen or so other confused freshmen to raise their hands, at which point he’ll have his G-TAB (grad teaching assistant ) write them on the board.

Also, if you have Byrns, just sign up for one and wait for him to explain his policy. You can go to anyone you want to and the lesser attended ones are worth more extra credit. Each TA gets a certain number of points to give out to his/her recitation so the less people there are, the more points you get. He also has help sessions himself that are nice to go to and worth even more points.
