Econ 120A or Math 180A?

I have a choice of taking either econ 120A or math 180A for my major (econ/math), could I get some input as to which class I should choose? Both professors have gotten good reviews on ratemyprofessor. Thanks!

I dont know about math180A but i heard econ120A isn’t that hard.

For comparison I found math 180A a little less difficult then math 109, if you’ve taken that yet. Some of the combinatorial probability problems can be subjectively difficult for some math majors. Some of it you can get away with doing the normal memorization plug and chug like chebyshevs, proofs, standard gaussian/normal, etc.

I had Jacques Verstraete who I thought was pretty good with a fair grading scheme and not hideously difficult midterm/final (no end curve but a 80+ A precurve). So if you decide to take 180A see if he’s teaching it.

MATH180 is a nice transitional course into the probability and stochastic theory courses you’ll take in the future. The rigor is much higher than that of the courses you’ll take in Econ, however.
