ECON 2040, NS 1150, BIOEE 1780 Question

If you have taken any of these classes…how are they?

NS 115 if its still taught by Levitsky, should be relatively easy. I remember I slept thru all his lectures and in the 2nd half I just didn’t bother going. This guy records all his lectures online. I just go over the online recordings a few days before the exam. There is a essay for the class, if it didn’t change, which is worth as much as an exam. Most people do very well 96++, which can be used to bring up your exam grades if needed…

Never took Evolution 178. I took 278 the old one before they switched it. The class is extremely boring. I went to every lecture (don’t know why cause i slept thru all of them. My friend woke me up for the clicker questions). Bit harder than NS 115 but not really

Sounds good. What did you really do in 278? I know they renamed it, but it’s the same class. I haven’t heard anything about that class besides NS 115+Econ 204 being ez. Oh, and Levitsky is teaching it again. Is NS 116 necessary to do really good on the essay?

^I took NS 1150 (with Prof. Levitsky) along with NS 1160 a few years ago. I feel that NS 1160 helped me ace the term paper (worth 25% of your NS 1150 grade). The assignments in NS 1160 are designed to help you work on your term paper throughout the semester. These assignments, ultimately, help students develop a complete term paper by the time it’s due.

It’s definitely still possible to do well on the term paper without taking NS 1160…however, if you take NS 1160, the TA who teaches your section will be the one who determines your grade on the paper; so having his/her input throughout the semester is extremely helpful. Just sayin’. :)

I see and plus its only 1 credit. Is it a pass/fail class or can take 116 with a grade?

It’s a pass/fail (S-U grades only) class: [Courses of Study 2010-2011](http://courses.cuinfo.cornell.edu/CoSdetail.php?college=NS&number=1160&prefix=NS&title=Personalized+Concepts+and+Controversies)

As long as you attend section each week, you’ll pass…In order to receive a passing grade, students may miss no more than 3 sections over the course of the semester (at least that was the course policy when I took it).

278 was just go to lecture for clickers. teacher hand out lecture notes before lecture starts. occasionally you have assignments, do them. take the prelims/final and your doneee

Is it correct that there is only 1 prelim for NS115 and they are only T/F tests…errr

not when i took it 3 yrs ago haha

I took it 4 years ago…I can’t remember if we had 2 or 3 prelims but there was also a final. Exams had a lot of T/F questions, but I don’t remember the exam being entirely T/F.

Yeah, the tests are all T/F for 1150. Definitely take 1160-- it meets once a week for 50 minutes or something, and it pretty much guarantees an A on the paper. Plus, our TA gave us study sheets for the exams.

i found the study sheets to be fairly useless… lol they were too simple

ECON 2040 is Networks and is a ridiculously easy class. It was the first A+ I ever got at Cornell. It’s also pretty interesting and it’s taught by Easley, who is okay, and Kleinberg, who is a genius. I’d definitely recommend it but it’s not a very deep class. A lot of topics are covered briefly and they don’t go into much detail.
