So I am in a bit of a sticky situation in terms of what GPA to put on my resume. Just this past June, I graduated from UCSB with a BA in Economics. However, until second quarter senior year, I had declared major status of Economics & Accounting. The reason why I switched majors was because I ended up being stronger in Economics than in Accounting.
My accounting grades significantly lowered both my major and cumulative GPA. In terms of my major overall Econ/Accounting major GPA (which includes all courses on the major sheet) my Econ/Accounting GPA is a 2.77 and my cumulative UC GPA is a 3.10. If I had not taken the accounting courses, my Econ major GPA would be a 3.15 and my cumulative UC GPA would be a 3.41. The issue that I am having is that as an Econ major is that the accounting courses count as optional electives so I can’t honestly pull them out in terms of my major GPA. However, because the accounting courses are considered optional elective courses for Economics majors, if I had known that I was better suited for Economics from the start, I could have avoided taking the accounting courses and instead opted for purely Economics electives, which would have resulted in me getting a stronger GPA.
So, my main issue is that I am now applying for jobs that are looking for Economics majors, but am still suffering from the weak accounting grades prior to switching my major. Therefore, I was wondering how I should handle this situation. Since my cumulative UC GPA is a 3.10, I was wondering if maybe I should omit my major GPA from my resume instead of listing both GPAs like I am currently doing?
On one final note, I was a transfer student who completed their first two years at a CCC before starting UCSB as a junior. Therefore, should I include a combined GPA from both institutions on my resume, or should I include two separate GPAs from each college? Right now, I am listing these two GPAs separately.
