Econ Major At USC (Your Opionion Matters!)

I was a spring admit in 2007. I had applied to Economics at USC (even though the department there sucks). I wanted to always do Business at Marshall but with a 3.3 cumulative college GPA, I thought that it would be a hard try for applying directly to Marshall. Today I think that since I am an international student, Marshall would have accepted my application with 3.3 (international students provide a lot of profits to USC) if I had applied directly at Marshall.
Correct me if I am wrong in this!

Okay- the admission counselor at Marshall (Miss Kelly Ching, she’s a **!) has strictly told me that she won’t allow me to get into Marshall because of my *ed up grades at USC. The reason to have this horrible gpa of below 3.00 could be because I didn’t like the college and the neighborhood when I first landed here in 2007. My housing was improper (may be because I was a transfer student). I was placed with 3 USC football athletes! Which I later didn’t mind but initially staying with them was a huge adjustment for me, for me being an alien to this country.
So because of all those factors, I did not study. I gave up my habit of studying. Some dangerous reaction (after seeing the people, the place and my circumstance at USC) occured in my mind. I was depressed and became a new member to join the huge population of the depressed and losers in Downtown Los Angeles. Basically my life was a living hell. I gave up and came back home and decided not to go back to the states unless I get to study Business.
Now the current situation is- with a humble GPA that I have I am guaranteed that I won’t get admission into any decent business school in the United States. But then I have now applied to the United Kingdom to a few decent universities that offer Business.
THE BIG QUESTION IS - how much of a difference does it make if I study Economics from the College Of Letters Arts And Sciences at USC rather that studying what I would have loved to, i.e. Business at Marshall? I see myself joining and helping my dad in his Logistics/ Transportation and Warehousing business in my home country. So my working career is already set by dad.
And isn’t it that ‘brand name’ of college matters at the end of the day? People when ask where I graduated from, USC would weigh heavily more than a average-to-a-below-average college in the UK?
I don’t know **** about what I would study in Economics. And I also know that Business degree would have worked better in my favor had I gotten into Marshall in the first place. Well I have stopped thinking much about it now… Trying to begin “a new beginning”… SO YOUR HELP would be highly beneficial to me and my future.
Hope to hear from you soon.

ok, first of all, you’d get more responses if you posted in another category… this one is all about art & design.

but, I’m a grad of USC, and have to say I’ve seen people get into Marshall if they pull their grades up- a friend of mine started out in architecture, got a pretty bad GPA, and then she transferred to being undeclared (just taking GEs) and got a 4.0 the next semester. Marshall let her in because they saw the bad GPA was a result of being in the wrong major. So it could be worth a try to come back, wrap up your GEs in a really stellar manner, and reapply to Marshall. Alternatively, I think you can do a minor in business without application, so you could always major econ and minor in business.
