Economics/ Finance Minor w/ Bio Major

I am pre- med, and a major in bio. But I would also like to know how to do simple financial things, which could help me on later in life. Also, I think I would like to know basic stock things and such so I would know where to put my money. It is my opinion that almost any salary could be turned into quite a lot of money if you know where to put it. So, will I benefit from an economics/ finance minor?

It can help. If your school has J-term, I’m sure some personal finance courses are probably offered during that period. You don’t even have to minor in those subjects; just take 1-2 courses since you just want to learn how to manage your money. But academic courses will be less useful than something that’s more along the lines of a personal finance course.

I just thought about it, but how probable is it that I will decently learn a few things about investing my money? I mean like stocks, mutual funds, etc. I just didn’t think 2 classes would cut it for those things. Of course, people that took these classes would know better than me.

You will learn enough. You should just borrow some books about this topic from your library. It isn’t rocket science.

It’s only rocket science if you want to manage a multi-million or multi-billion dollar mutual fund portfolio.

One more thing. What is the slight difference between economics and finance?

Economics: Theoretical
Finance: Applied

I know, I’m the finance guy.
