Are colleges familiar with the bajillion different academic competitions out there? And since they have no way of knowing who wins what awards, is it worht specifying events and what place you came in, or should i have put something general like ‘regional champion’ or ‘top 5’.

I wrote specific events on mine but then i looked at other peoples stats and awards and i realized how many different things there are… i don’t think they will even glance at what particular events I did because they aren’t familiar with all the science olympiad events or FBLA events.

thoughts?

I was wondering the same thing. So I only wrote the 3 most significant awards and attached a separate sheet of all other awards.

Actually, besides the Nat’l French Contest, I haven’t won any academic competitions. Almost all of my awards were just honorary, so I didn’t have to worry about writing 5th, or regional, or national, or whatever.

yeah, i don’t think they care too much about specifics actually…

of course they dont. think about the average (ivy) admissions officer. alot of them are just grad students hired to screen applications; there is NO WAY in hell that they’ll be able to validate an achievement at some random film festival or community college essay contest. unless its about something really specific/rare, the vast majority of admissions ppl arent going to bother checking anything
