ECs for applying to CALS

Hi, right now I’m a junior high schooler at Hong Kong. I want to apply for Cornell’s CALS when I become a senior; more specifically, I am interested in nutritional sciences.

My grades are not bad; 3.8 GPA (I do IB, so this is self-calculated), 2180 SAT and taking SAT subjects soon. I have a few ECs which point towards the fact that I have a passion towards this area of study. However, in my opinion, these activities are superficial in knowledge at best. What do you suggest I do to show that I have a genuine interest? Currently looking for an internship is not working; nobody wants a high school school student working at a lab.

Do you have any friends whose parents are doctors? You could get some easy volunteering or experience working in a clinical setting simply as a student aide. What you should have done though is secured a spot at a University Summer Program for High School students. All over the states, places like UChicago to Harvard offer multi-week courses for study (of which I’m sure they have nutrisci) that look good on college apps. If you can at all still do this I would really encourage you to because it’s one of the few legit ways to show an interest in a narrow topic. Either that or I would start working on a science fair or project. The admissions cycle doesn’t end in fall or winter when you submit your application. In fact after you submit, you can still send in supporting docs to help your case and if you have a science fair that did really well it could not only help your case but verify your interest. Hope this helped. :)
