EC's

I know they take the whole picture of the applicant into play, but what if you did something truly amazing?

Please don’t take this the wrong way, Im not bragging, or at least not trying to:
-writing two books,(family publisher) one about benefits of Shariah Muslim law and one about Arabic influence in medicinal practices during the time of the Crusades.

 • I have attended several conferences about Islam, like the 2009 ISNA Convention in DC.
 • I do research at University of Maryland, related to epidemiology.
 • I went to India to conduct my own epidemiology research in an Andhra Pradesh village. Connected to Indian Scientists and Doctors, provided me with biostatistical data of thier patients.
 • “preach” Islam and give talks to nonmuslims in my area about the misconceptions of jihad and terrorism. Hold interfaith discussions with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Jewish Student Association. Those are fun :stuck_out_tongue:
 • Fluent in Urdu, Hindi and Spanish, learning Arabic, especially quranic Arabic.
 • in process of getting patent for my idea of a battery attachment to a electric bmotorcycle to make it self-sufficient.
 • the big things in my life: science, religion, and the humanities, emphasis on science/religion.

I sincerly hope that this will sway the admissions officers to accept me even with my crappy 3.7 gpa.

Have you written the books or are you writing them?

Writing them now. Probably be finished by summer’s end.

Ok, well who is publishing them? What is the family publisher? is it your mom and a photocopier or an actual company, can you link me their site?

I not sure of the name, but my relative (Akram Zahoor) wrote books about Muslims in India and got them published and he talked to the company (they’re tight) and they said they will publish my books.
Google “Akram Zahoor, Muslims in the Indian Subcontinent”

I don’t think you get publishing deals before the book is written, you write the book(they read it) and then they publish it.

Oh that’s right.
He sorta assumes my books won’t be suckish, so he was like, “don’t worry, I can help you publish your books if you are really commited”.

Well if you get the books published, then your ECs will be astounding and will not be the limiting factor on any APP to any college.

1: Am I unique?

2: Also, will they look at me favorably, even though my gpa is only 3.7, and my transcript has two C’s and a D?

I retook the D class, however, and aced it. My counselor explained it in her rec. as a bad semester with a teacher known for mega-grade deflation. 7 A’s only. Out of 60 kids.

I wrote a book, self published it for college admissions purposes. It was like 100k words. I don’t think it helped that much.
The stats you’ve posted above though, honestly, aren’t ridiculously amazing. I know similar students with similar experiences.
Honestly, your extra cirriculars might hurt you as well. Not all colleges, even the really diverse, accepting ones like all types of diversity.

I also don’t think 2 C’s and a D matter really much; a 3.7’s pretty good, and really, really good if you had 3 bad grades like that.

I do commend you though, sorry to sound harsh^

Honestly, I thought I’d be the strongest Muslim applicant to a school.

Are you saying they will have a religious bias against me?
is that not against the law? They HAVE to be accepting of all types of diversity. They encourage it, so if they have to admit some muslim students to achieve it, they will do so. Of course, the one that shows the most demonstrated interest. Hopefully I’ll be good enough for this.
thanks for the comments though.

Self-published doesn’t count for anything.

Self-published = afternoon trip to kinko’s.

That’s why I’m actually getting a real deal from the publishing company my relative got his book printed by.
