ECs

Hi,
How does it look if a student with straight As has done almost no EC during the first 3 years of high school and does 5 new activities in his/her senior year?

Does it count against that student?

Er–yes. Especially if you’re doing early action, it looks like you’ve just joined activities to put on the application. Also, being a newbie in a bunch of clubs doesn’t demonstrate any leadership potential.

yea, that’s what people call resume padding. It looks like you only joined the clubs last minute because you realized that colleges want ECs.

just fyi, that’s not me. I was just wondering…

I ahave a question though. I have to choose between choir and student council to put in my EC section. I have just one spot but two activities left.
I have been in choir for 4 years now but I have only been in student council one year during junior year.

which one would be more favorable? This wouldn’t be cheating the system, right?

Neither is more favorable. Do the one you’ll enjoy most.

Put choir and put Student Council in the Additional Info section if you’ve done a lot for it.

going back to the first topic…
so it actually hurts to do all that during senior year?

yeah, as 1 poster said, it’s called “resume padding”. having no ecs also hurts, so if you’re in that situation in senior year, you’re kinda screwed :(

oooo,
as i said, that is not my case but I am seeing that this happens in my high school with my classmates. Since I have been participating in activities through out my high school years, I wanted to know if their ECs are considered the same way as mine…
Good to know that they won’t haha

is dat sum schadenfreude ? :O

sorry,
didnt mean to do that.
I didnt want to be mean but I really worked hard on my ECs and I was really upset that they were being very sneaky about the whole thing.

Im just glad that my work will be looked at differnetly than the others’

haha, don’t worry, noone’s here to judge you.
