ED 1 Admit with lots of questions for current GWU Students!

Have a lot of questions for you guys…
I’m looking at dorms and I’ve been accepted as an Arts and Sciences Major (political science). What dorms are closest to where my classes will be held?
Thanks!

Hi there,

I am a current freshman studying history and political science. I can tell you that courses are spread out throughout campus, and do not occur in one central location. While the department has one central location, they do not teach course out of there. I would say a lot of courses are taught out of the Elliot School since they have large lecture halls, however that is not the case for all political science courses. Regardless of where you live on campus (assuming its Foggy Bottom) the walk is not too far to get to any of your courses.

I also work at GW Housing, so if you have any other specific questions about housing I will be happy to help. Congratulations on your acceptance.

@GWU2018 thanks for your response. How far away (in terms of minutes) is the average students farthest class away from their dorm room?

@heyhey2034‌ If you took a residence hall like Amsterdam (a second-year building) and the Elliot School (which is on the other side of campus) the walk would be about 10-15 minutes. Really it depends on how fast you can walk. Generally speaking, I would say you’re not more than 10 minutes away from any of your classes with the exception of university writing which is on the Mount Vernon Campus.

Awesome. Thanks for this excellent info @GWU2018. I’ve visited campus before and have obviously seen pictures, but I’ve always wondered how the “commute” was. Don’t plan to live on the Vern, I think taking a shuttle in DC traffic is just too much for a daily routine.

@heyhey2034‌ I understand what you’re saying, but I will just say that I have friends who live on the Mount Vernon Campus and absolutely love it. It has a great community and is a beautiful campus. If you like the scenery and think you thrive better in that type of environment, I will just say that the traffic to get to Foggy Bottom and back should be the least of your worries. Most students on the Mount Vernon Campus stay on Foggy Bottom throughout the day and really only go back when they have to.

I’ll just say that if you had to live on the Vern, I promise it would not be a bad experience.
